My Shorts, and Flash Fictions - 15. One Word Prompt - “Behind”

Another One Word Prompt. A HAPPY one this time.

“Hold still…,” Alex said. He stood behind James, and reached around and adjusted the bowtie. The pair both wore tuxedos, black with gold trim, and tails, and Alex was putting the finishing touches on his friend. “You look good.”

“Thanks… I’m so fucking nervous. Is it too late to call it off?” James asked, with near panic in his voice.

“Calm down,” Alex replied and led James over to the couch in the dressing room. They both sat down, while Alex pulled out a flask and poured them each a paper cup with some liquid courage. “Yes, it’s too late. You have close to 300 people out there, waiting for you to get hitched. So, instead of being nervous, drink this, and let’s get ready.”

“I don’t think I can do this.”

Alex smiled and shook his head some. “Do you love him?”

“I do.”

“Can you see yourself spending the rest of your life with him?”

“I do.”

“Well, then. You know what you have to do.”

“Yes… yes, I do,” James said. He stood up and walked towards the door. “You coming?”

“I’m right behind you.”

The End

An Ultra Shorty.
