Albin - 15. Chapter 15
Albin did graduate with a Masters Degree in Business majoring in Accounting. He still worked the parties at the club and had not made a decision to go to Sweden, for the time being. (His good friend George stressed the importance of not closing doors. And his mother Marie reminded him of his grandfather Angelo's motto of “building strong bridges” as a means to success).
One year after Albin graduated, the club director retired and now they are looking for a new Director. Albin wanted that job and made sure everyone knew it. There were some concerns (by certain 'club members’ and 'backers’ from New York and Chicago) about a waiter making such a move. As in any organization, there are always those for and against. For Albin, the ‘for’ won.
One of the first actions Albin took was to rent out ‘hotel-like’ bedrooms on the second floor. He did register the business as a hotel catering to men. The next thing he did was to offer dinners in the evening. Of the three chefs, each chef would be responsible for one night’s dinner.
Young men in costumes still served as waiters. The highlight of each month was the continuation of the ‘theme’ parties. Giovanni returned as a legal immigrant. He became maitre’d for the dinners and also had his usual job for the 'private party’ nights.
And for Albin, his Swedish grandparents promised that he would succeed in running their construction company, which his late father Lars would have inherited had he survived the war. This would also have made his grandfather Angelo Merino proud.
They say, if you know the right people, and want to experience something unusual, there is a special hotel high in the sky that will give you an experience that you will never forget.
