My Shorts, and Flash Fictions - 7. Prompt #572 – First Line: "What do you mean you are leaving now?"

A short based on Prompt #572. Short and Sweet.

“What do you mean you are leaving now?” Kyle asks Gavin, as he moved to head towards the exit.

“Well, the party is winding down, and you have that client to impress,” Gavin says while leaning in to give his boyfriend a kiss. “I got a distinct impression; he would rather not see a gay couple.”

“That would be his loss, not mine. Really don’t need him, or his money, if he can’t be a decent non-homophobic person,” Kyle responds.

“Bullshit. I know he’s one of the bigger clients your company serves, so as much as he is a backward thinking, intolerant, hateful, bigot, your company needs him. Just charge him an extra 15%, and call it a Diversity Tax.” The hushed whisper garnered a chuckle from Kyle, and the lady they were passing. Gavin gave her a knowing look, and she just nodded.

“Well, it won’t be long, the presentation should only be an hour, and he looks liquored up,” Kyle said, hugging his lover. “Just wait in the Hotel’s bar, and I’ll be there shortly.”

“Anything for you sweetheart.” Gavin leaves via the exit and moves across the lobby headed for the bar.

Turning, Kyle heads back into the party, girding himself to do battle, with an ignorant client.

It was good... talk about a flash! I like the character interaction.

Thank you. I was going to make it longer and tempted to go back and do so, but when I got it to the end above, I realized I wouldn't be able to keep it a short. So, I cut it there, with a promise to revisit. You may have noticed, but Gavin and Kyle are from an earlier prompt.

Yes! I have read all of them. You should consider writing about them in a larger format. They are likable. ☺️

Too many ignorant clients in the world

So true, and sometimes all you have to do is suck it up and deal with it.
