Through the journey of a small group of men, this story explores the lasting effects of love and loss, longing and regret, serenity and grief. We learn the importance of one’s place in an unforgiving world and experience the seriousness of both treated and untreated mental health issues.

From Andrew and Omar’s first meeting to the growing and ultimately deadly rift between Bishop and King, their magnetism is undeniable. River and Tanner’s lifelong affection, Knight and Rook’s bond straining  as it deepened. The unrequited love of a son for his father; the painful crush of a boy on a man chasing a ghost.

@CasualWanderer82 tells one of the most moving and compelling stories I’ve read in a long, long time. The depth of these characters’ emotions and their seemingly inescapable flaws left me in tears and yet this isn’t a tale of tragedy so much as it is a demonstration of the power we have over one another.

And it isn’t all bleak either. These men and their loins left mine throbbing with a need nearly as strong as theirs. Smoldering lust balances out moments of somber reflection and emotional upheaval.

Like the author’s other works, this one is … wow. Yeah, that about sums it up. Wow.

Response from the author:

To get to read your thoughts and count on your wit and cunning insights throughout this journey as certainly been one of its highlights. Thank you @Danners for this beautiful review...

"It cannot be too greatly emphasized that the most important role in pawn endings is played by the king."

(Siegbert Tarrasch)

“Pawns: they are the soul of this game; they alone form the attack and defense.”

(Philidor)

King is dead. What is left is kingdom without crown, men without leader, lover without heart, son without father…

Three men, united in their grief and mutual memories, make a trip to King’s ranch to make it his final destination. King's son is with them, making connection with his deceased father, he couldn't do while King was alive. Lost in delusional, after suicide, King's soul finds peace in eternity of metaphysical, riding as a black stallion through the green fields and forests of King's ranch. His friends find their own peace, knowing that they love, and they have been loved. Pawn, the King's son, emerges from the deepness of the forests almost ethereal, as mythical being, becoming what he was destined to be since he was born.

Ranch hidden deep into wildness, a refuge from hardness of the life in reality becomes a place of legends as Valhala or Olymp… In @CasualWanderer82's own words, spoken through the voice of King (Omar):

"This place, this ranch... it's more than just a piece of land. It's a place where they can come to be free. To feel, to grieve...to love.

A Kingdom...of Men."

This story could be read as fairytale, legend...or story of finding peace and freedom. @CasualWanderer82 brings another masterpiece that won't leave you indifferent. Read it and find your own decrypting code of this epic tale.
