Davis travels - 1. Chapter 1

Davis travels

An Admiral, standing by a pedestal. There were 3 caskets with Canadian flags draped over them. "We are gathered here today to pay tribute to our honored dead," said admiral Winston, " Captain William Davis, Commander Ryan Johnson and, Lieutenant-Commander James Tanner. These men died to save the rest of the crew. They will always be remembered." The gun salute was next and then I watched as my dad’s coffin was lowered into the ground with full military honors. The Admiral came up to me after the service. "If there is anything I can do to help, let me know." he said.

Back at the group home the government has set up for kids who’s parents where killed in the line of duty, I went to my room to read dad’s journals. I just sat down when there was a knock at the door. "Can I come in?" asked Sam Johnson and he walked in anyway.

"What do you want, Johnson?" I asked with a sigh.

"Just wanted to see if you wanted to talk, Davis."

"No."

"Fine, mind if I do?"

"Yes." and I rolled over and went to sleep.

"Tyler, come down for breakfast." That would be Jane, my new mother.

"I will be down in a minute and stop calling me Tyler!"

"Why it is your name, isn’t it?"

"Yes," I said as I walked into the kitchen, "and only those who I call friends may use it!"

She looked a little taken back after I said that.

"Well what do you want me to call you?"

"Davis." and I left for school.

As I walked inside, hell started. At the first break it all got shot to hell.

"Where is your dad, Davis? Did he ran of with some women?" said Adam, the school bully. I just continued walking to my next class.

"Or maybe he ran off to join the navy, I hear there are some cute men in there." He went too far with that comment.

"My dad was a member of the Canadian navy and he died saving his crew," I said to him, "and if you ever insult my dad again, I will kill you where you stand!"

"Oh so little sailor boy is going to hurt me. Why don’t you go run to your boyfriend, just like your dad did!"

"Today you will die!" and with that I ran to him. With a blow to the neck he fell and his friends came after me.

Ten second later they were down as well. As I went to finish the job, a teacher came out to see what was going on.

"Davis, what happened here?"

"They insulted my dad and I am going to kill them!"

"Davis, no. Let’s talk about this."

"No!" Then he tackeled me and would not get up until another teacher arrived. They then walked me to the main office.

"This behavior is not going to be tolerated, your dad would be disappointed." said one of the teachers and I stormed out of the room. First stop is my house. I made it to the front door before two cops grabbed me. They read me my rights and charged me with attempted murder. At the station I asked to make a call. They said go ahead. I dialed the Admiral’s number.

"Hello." he said.

"Sir, this is Davis, I am in a lot of trouble."

"Where are you?"

"At the station, I’m under arrest."

"I will be right there."

"Thank you, sir."

After the call I went back to my cell and waited for the Admiral to get here. Ten minutes later he showed up in full dress uniform and bellowed: "Davis, who the fucking hell did you try and kill?!"

I told him the story and when I finished he said: "There is one way to avoid prison. You have to be admitted to the psychiatric hospital to be released when you are no longer a threat to yourself or to others."

"You have to be kidding."

"Do I look like I am laughing?" he said.
