Twisted Dawn - 8. The Tangled Web
Erin could read me like a book. Always could. That’s why it came as no great surprise to me that my first shot missed her by mere inches and the second was no where close to hitting her at all. She had disappeared but her power signature gave her general vicinity away. I tried attacking mentally but once again ran into a wall as my powers rebounded on me. She attacked fast, a kick to the back of the head that had me stumbling and an ass punch so wicked that my legs simply gave out. I writhed back and forth on the floor swearing when I caught sight of her emerging from behind the couch. The breath caught in my throat as I watched her walk purposefully in my direction. It wasn’t the urgency of her step or the look of victory on her face but the really jagged look sword she was brandishing in her hands.
I tried to focus enough to force her to back away but all I managed to do was to somehow make her blade gleam even more. I tried over and over again until her sword resembled a spike. Her gait slowed considerably as she neared my head and started talking to me. You would think for someone in such a life threatening situation listening and trying to think of a way out would be the first choice so I wouldn’t anger her, but I couldn’t help but think that after all of this she just broke into a dialogue.
Realizing I wasn’t paying attention to her, Erin viciously brought the sword down across my face. I could feel a white hot pain that slowly spread outwards but never began to heal as it should have. I focused on her sword to try to glean any information I could about it that could help me escape this, my own personal hell, as she swiped the sword at my face again. The pain I felt was indescribable as she slowly made a trail from my forehead down to the center of my chest.
Erin began lifting her arm once again when she was struck from behind and sent flying into the nearby wall. I looked up and noticed that it was Ashley who had attacked her while Mathias was busy trying to fight my father off long enough to break the hold he was under. With a grunt Mathias was knocked backwards and pinned to the floor by a familiar looking sword also being wielded by my father. As Mathias screamed out in pain, my anger erupted into a maelstrom of power.
