Despair - Prologue. Prologue

Prologue: *4 years ago*

The chill of the winter air kept the pair of lovers nuzzling closer to each other under the covers. It was a late December evening in Ney York when they found just how cozy the other was when in between the sheets. If anyone was standing in the room, they would be able to feel the love each one radiated for the other. It was a bond set in stone that no one would ever be able to break…

“I love you so much Loryn,” whispered David.

“I love you more,” replied Loryn.

The pair began to kiss and touch and do so much more as the last shreds of light were fading from the darkening sky. The whole world could pass by and they would never even know it. It can take so long to find the person you want to love for the rest of your life; you’ll never want to let them go. He shouldn’t have let him go…

“Ahhh, that was amazing… I could stay here in your arms forever,” said David.

“Me too, but I have a report to finish for my boss, and I’m pretty sure it was due yesterday…,” replied Loryn sadly. “I’ll make you a deal though! If you go out and buy another carton of eggs and flour from the market, I will make us the most amazing breakfast in bed you will ever have! Ever!, exclaimed Loryn.

“So is this for my benefit, or is this for you buying time to get that report done? teased David as he caressed Loryn with his finger.

“Stop that! See! This is why I can never get anything done! I’m always way too distracted by you…,” Loryn said as they began a rather passionate lip lock. “Ok! So you go and get the stuff, and by the time you get back, I will have finished and then we can eat in bed and… probably eat...in…bed…again,” Loryn said as he gave a sly grin.

“I do like the sound of that… I guess so… but that breakfast for dinner thing better be amazing like you say it is! David teased as he began to get dressed.

“It will, don’t you worry about that, cutie!” Loryn said as he walked his boyfriend to the door.

“Alrighty, I’ll grab the stuff and be back before you know it, and then we can pick up where we left off…, smiled David as he walked out the door. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Loryn sighed. God I love that man way too much, he said to himself as he shut the door.

Three hours had passed and the snow on the ground began to look thicker as the sky poured an endless stream of it from the night sky. It wasn’t like David to take that long just to pick up the few simple things at the market and come right back. It would only take an hour tops if he walked at a normal pace. What was the problem? Loryn began to have a great deal of worry ever since the proposal was finished an hour and a half ago. It shouldn’t take that long, even with the snow… A knock at the door!

“Finally! It’s about time; I was worried si-…” Loryn stopped.

“Are you Loryn West?” The first police officer asked.

“I am,” replied Loryn.

“I’m sorry to inform you that there’s been an accident near the market on Radio Street involving your friend David Towers,” began the officer. “As he was leaving the market area, he was confronted by a group of young men who didn’t like the…choices…he made in life, the officer continued. Loryn could only stand in shock. “He was beaten so badly…we rushed him to the hospital, but we…we couldn’t save him. I’m so sorry,” finished the officer.

After the officers had left and the story told, He stayed motionless for a long time. Waiting at the door as if David would come waltzing through and everything would have been a huge joke, and all of it be ok again… It didn’t happen.

He waited for days by the door, never moving; not doing anything at all. He had no more tears to cry, they flowed endlessly for hours and were now all dried up. Nothing was left. His heart that was once so full of life and happiness was now an empty space to fill. He fell deeper and deeper into sadness until he felt as though he had hit rock bottom and could fall no more.

The papers didn’t seem to care about the “fag” that was killed in an “accident.” The news gave no report on how this horrible tragedy had destroyed a most perfect burning love and turned it to ash. How could they just let it all go? Days faded to weeks and still no light was brought to the horrible subject. All the light and good seemed melt away from the once beautiful, equal earth. That’s when everything really began to change.

One midnight the world in front of his eyes began to swirl and a shadow of darkness began to unfold before his eyes. The shadow took the shape of the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in all of his years. She walked over to him with great elegance and the gentlest of hands reached out to him.

“Come here my child, I can help you to regain what is missing. It isn’t lost. If you help me in obtaining the Ultime core, you can get him back! Just like he was before! We can all get what we want…,” she promised.

“I…I don’t know…,” Loryn stated.

“Oh yes you do. You can feel it inside of you, don’t you? That is utter sadness. It gives those who feel it immense power. And you my child have experienced the worst, the fallen love. You can be the leader of those who want back what was taken from them!” she exclaimed.

“I…accept…,” Loryn said as he gave in to the shadows. He began to rapidly change; losing his old self as the sadness consumed him, giving him great strength and power. His clothes gave way to a sinister black cloak that fitted him perfectly. Time began to slow down and speed up at different intervals according to what Loryn was seeing and feeling. Finally all was lost within the cloud of shadow around his heart and whole being. He was Loryn West no longer.

“That’s right my child; you are lost no longer! You will help me in my ways, and in return, I shall give you all that you desire! You shall lead the ones to bring about the sadness to the world. You shall control the times!” she smiled wickedly.

“From this day forward all is within our reach!! The world will fall to our utter power! You have reached the highest level of sadness, and so as such you are given a fitting name. You will forever be known as: Despair!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!” she laughed into the darkness. “Come Despair, we have much to teach you!” she said with a final grin.

The world began to spin again as the shadows and screams of the night began to swirl around them. He took one final look at the world he was leaving behind; and hoped he would eventually be able to see it as he once did. Hoping he could change it back. Until then, it was goodbye to the cruelness that surrounded everything. He turned back and didn’t look at it again; for there was nothing there for him now. “Goodbye…,” was the last thing he said as the shadows enveloped him and he was transported away from the old life he once thought he knew…
