New Experiences - 2. Angels

Angels

There’s this discomfort

That I’ve been trying to name

Find a reason or an explanation

It settles in my shoulders

Right where they meet

Where I would like to grow wings

Do you think anyone

had to teach the angels

how to fly?

Read Plato much? lol --

I don't know enough about you to understand if you have possibly read Plato, but in Phaedrus, Socrates is trying to describe to the young man of the work's title what it feels like when a person's soul awakens in them. First, he says this new growth can often be caused by the sudden appreciation of beauty many of us get when we're teenagers, and that this experience feels as if our body is trying to grow wings. We all want to soar, he assures us.

Another masterful poem. So glad you posted this collection
