I Just Want To Be Me - 1. It's Dark in the Closet

I’ve always known
But what good is knowing
if I can’t
be honest about it?

The ones I’ve been with know
But they live with their own secrets
and I never see them again
which is probably a good thing

I want to share my secret
with just a few friends
and maybe a family member
But I don’t know how they’ll react

Right now, they say they love me
What will they say after they know?
Will they love me more—or less?
I don’t think I want to find out

If I could tell just one person
friend or family
I wouldn’t be so alone
with my secret

Sometimes I think it controls me
makes me pretend to be
somebody I’m not
just to keep me safe

But what good is it
to be safe
if I’m living a lie?
I just want to be me

When I started writing the Wearing Green on Thursday series, I created a profile of each main character. This is part of what Bruce told me about himself. Things turned out all right for him...there is hope for all.
