Like many people who are unpleasant and unpopular while alive, Becket became idealised after his death.

Can an absolute monarch be said to suborn anything?

Murder is still against the law... unless you have charges brought first.  so... yes?

Charges can always be forthcoming. Ostensibly, the knights who killed him were attempting to arrest him and he refused to leave the sanctuary of the church. One of the big contentions between Henry and Becket was whether clergy were subordinate to the law.

In defense of Henry, he did send a rider to call back the four knights when he found out what they were up to.

Part of the reason I phrased my example the way I did ".. is said to have..."
