Congratulations Columbus, GA!

Yikes, it's been a long time since I've updated this ... 0:)

Anyway, so I've been watching the Little League World Series. The final game was today, and Team USA (from Columbus, GA) defeated the team from Kawaguchi, Japan, with a final score of 2-1. I was pulling for the team from Oregon to win (since that's where Kitty lives! :great: ), but they were defeated in the US Championship game. There were a couple really outstanding players from both teams, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them in the majors a few years down the road. I've read a lot of stuff from sports 'commentators' who have been complaining that the LL World Series shouldn't be televised, how it put unnecessary pressure on the kids, was just an avenue for them to show off, blah blah blah. After seeing the incredible displays of good sportsmanship by the Georgia team when they won (and from many of the other teams), I think the LL belongs on ESPN a helluva lot more than so-called 'professional' baseball, where steroid abuse is rampant and the players make millions of dollars to act like arrogant pricks. The kids are much more genuine, are excited about the game, displayed incredible sportsmanship (I think the Georgia team hugged the Japanese kids more than each other), and are out there to have fun. No wonder attendance at big league games is so low, and the games at the LL World Series were all jam-packed. The LL program is excellent, and I'm glad that I had that experience when I was a kid.

I still haven't found a job yet, and I have to admit, I'm getting very frustrated. The whole experience has put me in a bit of a funk, and I think that's a big reason why I haven't gotten Ch. 26 of SOOTB finished yet. I can't write when I'm in a crappy mood. It's almost halfway done, though, so it shouldn't be too much longer. But the job thing ... *sigh* ... it's really dragging me down. Everyone I talked to before I made the decision to come back told me how I'd have people beating down my door and how many jobs there are for fluent Chinese speakers. Well, the latter is true ... there are quite a few jobs ... but I haven't gotten any of them yet. And it's making me very moody, cranky, grouchy, frustrated, and bitter. I do have a few leads, but nothing very firm, and probably not anything serious for a while. Ugh!

Anyway, that's about it for now. There really isn't much to blog about, as my days are quite boring. On a positive note, my diet is going extremely well, and I've now lost a grand total of 19 lbs. so far. I'd like to lose about 11 more lbs., and then I'll be back down to a much more reasonable weight. I've lost one or two pants sizes so far, so I may need to get some new shorts pretty soon ...

Hehehe...someone's talking baseball and it ain't me. :)

David, sorry to hear about the job market...if you need to do some job scouting in the Sacramento area, let us know...you've always got a room to stay in (although you might want to be careful...Manuel has a habit of just showing up at times and likes to use the room. We showed him some pictures of you from your website and he says he won't mind sharing).

j/k (mostly)

Hope things go well, and hey, good news your diet is going well!

"moody, cranky, grouchy, frustrated" ... understandable... but I don't like to hear about the "bitter" part.

I'd think there'd be a substantial job market on the West Coast for people who can read and speak Chinese and know the culture. Would that be doable?

As much as I enjoy having you in the same time zone, I have to agree with Kitty on this. I also think the West Coast would have better opportunities. Might be worth looking into.

Wow sorry about the job situation. It is really a miserable place to be. It is cool that you are still able to deal with your weight and diet and keep doing stuff that can make a big difference as I am sure you know. I am sure that with your background good things will appear or we will just all have to help turn you into the new Stephen King(money wise). Good Luck on that front hopefully now that summer is over more jobs will appear.

I too have been watching the LLWS especially as I have had a low grade infection going on over last 10 days or so(all better now) so kicking back and watching it has been good. I also routed for the Oregon team. But all the teams were fun to watch. Unfortunately due to the rain delay I missed the final. I am so pissed. I never thought the Japanese team would be beatable. They had played so well thru the series. How cool for the Ga guys.

Again good luck to you. Pax, Steve

So, Has anything happened with this "friend" you chatted with, who speaks Chinese? You said you were going to meet up with him and maybe take him to your reunion. Just curious, since you mentioned it in your blog. :2thumbs:

I think a lot of us would like to know what has happened with him. You considered it worth mentioning in your blog; now I am curious.

Good luck on the job search. Patience and persistence will win. Hope you got my PM on the matter.

Hi LB.

The best time to look for a job is when you got one. If I may give you an advice, take the first reasonable job offer that you get and then it is much easier to search for a much better one. You will do better on interviews knowing that you already have some sort of job security. You will be more confident.

I have confidence in you and I wish you the best of luck.

Hugs,

Michael.

AMEN - and good luck from me as well. I'm retired now. But it's always nice to know that the person being interviewed is bringing some experience to the position he is appling for.
