Tiger Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Now, it will be a while before it's time for me to start the research, but I thought I would go ahead and start this thread. I have conceived an idea for a story that involves investigation of murder. Yes, I sometimes watch CSI, but I need to know the subject in depth in order to write this murder/mystery story. Where should I start when I am ready to start this research? Are there any books or websites that can shed some light?
Libby Drew Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Now, it will be a while before it's time for me to start the research, but I thought I would go ahead and start this thread. Where should I start when I am ready to start this research? Are there any books or websites that can shed some light? I might have a few suggestions, but before I give them it would help to know from what perspective you'll be "investigating" this crime? Will you need primarily forensic how-to, or legal/justice information? Will the POV character(s) need special knowledge, e.g. are they a scientist? A cop? Victim? It sounds like you'll want bits and pieces of all facets of crime investigation, but knowing who's telling the story may help decide what you need most of. Do you feel like sharing what you have in mind? I'll understand if you want to keep it close to the chest.
Tiger Posted June 6, 2008 Author Posted June 6, 2008 I answered in PM about my story idea, because i don't want too many to know about it until I'm releasing it. That will be a while as I have not started writing the actual story.
Duncan Ryder Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 I don't know about the US but in Canada and the UK there are Crime Writers' Associations. They give out writing awards and stuff, but they also have meetings, research things etc. Might be worth pursuing...
