  1. It had been a week, and Neven was still amazed by how different Lys-Akkaria seemed to be. Being in its heart would have been his nightmare just a few weeks ago, and now he was here, holding hands with Denir, and if anyone stared at them, it had nothing to do with the fact that two men were holding hands, but rather someone recognizing who they were. Thankfully, that was also a fairly rare occurrence, but Neven supposed it made sense. People in general didn't know what exactly Neven looked l
  2. After much scheming and negotiating, Yarima had managed to achieve her goal—be allowed to stay with Enlin while in Kyr-Toryl. The Lys-Akkarian Courtiers had tried to get her different accommodations, but Yarima was not throwing away her chance to spend more time with Enlin, especially when she wouldn't have to be constantly worrying about their lives for once. They had been given a moment of respite, and Yarima was determined to make use of it. Enlin had seemed quite pleased about it as wel

    Chapter 39

Indeed. Instead of chilling out and settling down he does this
  4. Ain almost started crying when he and Fenn stumbled to his house, though Fenn's stumbling was more metaphorical than his own. Neither of them had wanted to be seen, so while Fenn stayed a shadow, Ain had made himself invisible. Even just the trip to his house from the palace had exhausted him, but he kept telling himself that at least his powers did seem to be returning to him. He wouldn't be burning down any armies for a long time, though, not that he wanted to have to do that ever again.

    Chapter 38

    He's the absolute worst
  7. "The High Herald is...our relative?" said Denir once they'd told all the rebels about what they'd found out. Denir was frowning, looking more confused than shocked, which Fennrin found quite interesting. He still couldn't believe this news, and he wasn't the one related to the Herald. He couldn't imagine how he'd feel in Denir's shoes, and yet the man just seemed baffled about how this was possible. This had definitely put a lot of things into perspective. They didn't know exactly why the H

    Chapter 37

He's choosing the worst way to deal with family drama
  9. Fennrin leaned back against a bookcase, taking a deep breath. They'd been standing here, waiting for the Arbiter to appear, for what felt like hours, but he knew he was simply being impatient. They couldn't rush this, or they could risk ruining everything, or at the very least setting themselves back far too much. It was only him and Tysalin here, waiting in the dark, listening to every little creak, watching for every shadow moving in the dim archives. Fennrin had never been here befo

    Chapter 36

    She should adopt him
  12. Fennrin followed Tysalin as she headed to her chambers, trying not to really take in anything around him. It was very helpful that it was the middle of the night so shadows obscured everything into a dark blur, but as a shadow himself, he couldn't just close his eyes and stop seeing even the little that was visible. In fact, he even saw what was behind him this way. He didn't think about it anymore, having grown used to it, but actually stopping to realize that he had view of everything around h
  13. Petre opened the door as their secret knock sounded once more, only to blink at seeing the Bulwark holding the the Patron, Ghynir Fyr-Irathel, in her arms, cradling the woman with such pain in her eyes. Petre stepped aside without a word, wanting to ask what had happened but not wanting to overwhelm Tysalin. However, Ain had no such qualms. "You're back!" he cried, clearly trying to keep his voice down, but he was quiet really only by Ainreth's standards. Ain ran over, helping Tysalin put t

    Chapter 34

She's the surrogate mother these idiots need
  15. Ainreth had been on edge the whole day, but finally, time was drawing near. They knew that the Bulwark had come back to her senses and was just now pretending to be under Varilik's control. They had been exchanging notes with her through a sympathizer servant at the palace, so they could communicate, but they had left that to the absolute minimum. Paper trail was the last thing they wanted to leave behind, and so they were instead meeting in person tonight. It had been a couple of days sinc
