  1. The constant cheerful CHATTER first thing in the morning! How can anyone wake up that chatty? Just shut up and let me sit, be still, and read a couple of chapters of whatever I'm reading (some people have coffee I have books) and then I will talk to you. Carrying on a conversation with me when I am already on the phone. And, when my parents are about to come down for a visit arguing with me about how to clean the house. I give fair warning honestly i do. I say, I know you have a different way of doing things, I don't mind, but today just do as I say like I say and we will get through this with a minimum of bloodshed. But nope, he has to find something to say do differently about and then it's a fight. Though I will admit, after 14 yrs it's getting a little better. Still, just don't talk to me in the mornings. Let me get my reading fix.
  2. Sean Connery definitely! (seems to be a consensus starting, hehe) and, Ron Perlman -- but only from when he played Vincent in Beauty and the Beast a very long time ago man, I'm showing my age
  3. To Autumnwolf: you might already know this, but Loreena McKennit (sp?) put that poem to music. It is one of my favorites by her! One of my personal favorites is "She Walks in Beauty" by Lord Byron (sorry about the purple font can't figure out how to turn it off) She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! and just because I have kids (and my life revolves around them while they are young) and they love me to read this to them, but it also reminds me of when I was little and would daydream in front of my dad's salt water tanks. The Land of Counterpane by Robert Louis Stevenson When I was sick and lay a-bed, I had two pillows at my head, And all my toys beside me lay To keep me happy all the day. And sometimes for an hour or so I watched my leaden soldiers go, With different uniforms and drills, Among the bedclothes, through the hills; And sometimes sent my ships in fleets All up and down among the sheets; Or brought my trees and houses out, And planted cities all about. I was the giant great and still That sits upon the pillow-hill, And sees before him, dale and plain, The pleasant land of counterpane.
  4. To phana14: Thank you soooo much! That compliment means a lot to me! *hugs* right back at you! and to TetRefine: We all ready have our hands full! I'm thinking convent but that might lead to whole new levels of boy craziness!
  5. This is going to sound stupid, but theme songs to some movies for me. Especially techno. For some reason the Mortal Kombat theme and the new James Bond theme do it every time. Unless I want romance and then it is candles and almost anything by Enigma. It can't have words though otherwise I am too busy trying to sing along! Wait! Just thought of one! "Original Sin" by Elton John Oh, it's carnival night And they're stringing the lights around you Hanging paper angels Painting little devils on the roof Oh the furnace wind Is a flickering of wings about your face In a cloud of incense Yea, it smells like Heaven in this place I can't eat, can't sleep Still I hunger for you when you look at me That face, those eyes All the sinful pleasures deep inside Tell me how, you know now, the ways and means of getting in Underneath my skin, Oh you were always my original sin And tell me why, I shudder inside, every time we begin This dangerous game Oh you were always my original sin A dream will fly The moment that you open up your eyes A dream is just a riddle Ghosts from every corner of your life Up in the balcony All the Romeo's are bleeding for your hand Blowing theater kisses Reciting lines they don't understand I can't eat, can't sleep Still I hunger for you when you look at me That face, those eyes All the sinful pleasures deep inside Tell me how, you know now, the ways and means of getting in Underneath my skin, Oh you were always my original sin And tell me why, I shudder inside, every time we begin This dangerous game Oh you were always my original sin
  6. Ok. I am new here, so please bear with me. The post above me was talking about homeschoolers being isolated. In some cases that is very true, especially in small towns where there are not a lot of others who are homeschooling. I have an 8 yr old son who I homeschooled for grades K & 1st. He is now in public school for a variety of reasons. Anyway, he did learn, and I think he learned better at home. However he was not isolated in any way. He attended (and still does) Cub Scouts, church on Sunday--which includes Sunday School, and services-- and Wednesday Night church group stuff. We were also part of a homeschool group that got together for field trips, etc. With the exception of the homeschool group activities, he was with peers his age who attended regular school and was unsupervised by us (not unsupervised by adults just us as his parents). Like you said, it is important to learn to deal with the little things in life so you can learn to handle the big things. Being homeschooled did not stop him from being exposed to those little things and learning to handle them. He is now in public school, and I will say that the transition was not easy, but that is more to do with learning how to do things their way than interacting with others. Homeschooling has a lot to offer, but like all things it has its pros and cons. I worry about my son in school more than I do my daughter. Boys do end up getting the short end of the stick most of the time. The teachers (who usually are female) tend to gravitate more to the girls who are (usually) quieter and listen better. So to the original topic, I think it depends on the individual child. If my son learned better and was happier in a single sex educational setting, in a heartbeat I would pull him out of regular school and have him in a single sex school or class or what-have-you because that would be what was best for him. All other things, like interaction with the opposite sex, can be learned out of school just as easily as in, without the additional pressure of being watched to see who you are associating with. Alright, reading the past posts and my response, I am thinking same sex classes would be a good thing for my 5 yr old daughter. She is very boy crazy! She has several "boyfriends" in class, a boy she has been marrying since she learned to say the word at church, and has just announced that since the boy up the street doesn't have a girlfriend (he is 8) she will be his girlfriend. Someone shoot me now!!!!!
