  1. I shook my head. That was weird. For a moment I had felt like I was grabbed and ripped apart, but now, everything looks fine. I patted my pocket, my phone was still there. Bags on my right shoulder, check. Looked back to the closed front door, check. Okay, maybe I just had a panic attack. Still holding the flashlight, I shone it around the entryway, which was a nice, proper foyer: Wood floor, nice inlay design, semi-spiral staircase leading up, and various rooms to all sides. Coolio-
  2. We'll have a few more, too.

  4. To be determined ... ×2. The next 6 chapters are already in the queue to be posted here.

  6. Pre-Script, since folks don't often read the chapter / story notes: If, as you read this and the next and next chapter, you are confused: skip ahead to Chapter 8, which is labeled as "Chapter 2: William, 6pm" (posted 12:09pm on October 18 (US Mountain Time)). It will make much more sense. Otherwise, the sense of confusion you might experience before reading that chapter is actually intended, but I know it's not for everyone: You're supposed to be a little confused about what's going on, unles
  7. Thanks! Time and space ... in relative dimensions ... (okay, IF you are familiar with that genre, it's only mentioned briefly once, this is not a [that thing that is the acronym]).
  8. I mean, a long-abandoned house, I can certainly see where that could be plausible. But not quite the direction I'm intending. Think, "Halloween."
  9. "No way." "Yes way." "William, you can't be serious," my friend asked. I looked away from Jason and took a bite of my burger. I chewed slowly and swallowed. I took a sip of my Diet Qoque. I looked up at him, and I nodded. Jason's mouth was open slightly as he stared. "Tell me again." I rolled my eyes and took another bite, then swallowed. Another sip and was startled, not realizing I'd reached the bottom and was into the ice only part of my drink. Drawing this out
  10. William receives a note from Great Uncle Beauregard Sanders’ lawyer, informing William that he has just inherited a house. All William has to do is stay there tonight – on Halloween – to get his inheritance. Certainly, nothing weird could happen, right?
  11. In case anyone reads these way after the fact but before the next chapter: I've the next 3 chapters written, but I want to get the next 5 done and then go through and edit for consistency. There's some first-day-of-classes stuff, some not-red-herrings, and some sex that I need to do another pass through. But, travel is done for the year (hopefully) and I won't get sick again (really hopefully) so I'm hoping to go back to nearly daily posts.
  12. When I got back to the dorm room, Peng was gone. I asked where he was, and Jake told me that Peng had said he wanted to go for a jog around campus. Ug. Jogging to me was walking just fast enough that you're super-uncomfortable but want to feel like you're accomplishing almost as much as running. I'll keep that opinion to myself, I think. Eitan and Jake were both dressed and Eitan was already looking at his computer. It was like mine from home in that the display was holographic, but th
  13. Just gonna note COVID's a bee-yotch. Almost back to normal, but I head to Helsinki for work in 20 hrs, am home for a day, then Flagstaff for a week for work. After that, no more travel 'til January! So, posting should be more regular after that.
  14. We shall see.
  15. Shawn's Dorm Room I woke up in a cold sweat, and Jake was also sitting up in bed, a muscular arm rubbing his other arm and then the back of his neck. He didn't look any different, but a quick scan showed two new pieces of information: Ability: Strength Level: Beta-1 I smirked. I guess he did get strength after all. I felt like I was in a fantasy-muscular-college-roommate porno, but I quickly tucked that away. I'd be rooming with these guys for the next two years, so best k

    Chapter 17

One always has a choice. Though a good magician knows how to force the choice.

    Chapter 17

I slept well in Kitchi's home and was ready near the asscrack of dawn to journey to the Great Dicku. Kitchi walked me to the edge of the clearing, while other Cockirians occasionally joined. By the time we were at the edge, a crowd of maybe 50 had gathered. There was no sign posted nor other marker to indicate where I should go, save for a small path into the woods. My entourage stopped before we reached it, forming a semi-circle around the entrance to the path. Kitchi stepped forward.
  18. This story isn't dead! Just that running a conference takes a lot of time, and I wanted to give some love to my fantasy story, "Somewhere to Go" (that really should've had a better title, but I think it's too late). I am going on a nine-day vacation, though, starting Friday, so updates to both will be slower than the one chapter per day that was the norm June–July.
  19. I'm attempting to create ... conflict, and intrigue, and more mystery.
  20. Elsewhere at BBC Director Green rode his PULSE from the auditorium through an underground passage to the administration building. It had been a fairly standard orientation, where all the new recruits appeared suitably impressed with his ability as evidenced by their gasps at the correct moments. The medics' installation of the AI chips was clearly working based on the responses, though that was just a directed superficial thought. It would take years for each chip in each young man to fu

    Chapter 16

I figured it might be like this. I walked through the path on the other side of the clearing, and a few steps later I exited the Misty Woods. There had to be several hundred guys there waiting in the twilight sun. Kitchi was in front along with Odakota. I heard the rumble of a crowd but as soon as Kitchi saw me, he held up his hand high. The silence was practically instantaneous, and the only thing I heard now was my own breathing. I stopped walking. Kitchi looked at me and lower

    Chapter 15

I meant what I wrote in all its different implications.

    Chapter 15

Not quite, but close enough. And Our Hero definitely needs some liquid courage.

    Chapter 15

The woman looked at me, confused written on her face. Then, she daintily took a step and walked off the floating dais, yet she didn't fall. She continued to step in thin air, walking down as though she were descending a semi-spiral staircase even though there was nothing there. When she reached the bottom, the dais disappeared, but the dick remained, the balls continuously filling with water from an unseen source and the dick itself continuing to spit the water out of the head into the pond b
