  1. We may or may not find out in ... (looks through text) ... 3 chapters.
  2. Prof. Chen came over to us and explained: "What you just went through was a simulation. This gym can function as a large, single holographic simulation, or it can project individual holosuites in isolated areas. You were just now in a holosuite. We'll explain things more when it ends in about 15 minutes. Congratulations, you are only the second group to succeed. You can talk amongst yourselves or do whatever you'd like until we're ready to reconvene. We looked at each other in a bit o
  3. Got it. Another lesson learned for me on that one, don't assume people will think these guys are that crazy.
  4. Okay, fair 'nough. I guess in my mind, the (unstated) idea of safeguards in place so if they screw up there'd be guardrails to fix it was enough to make it seem real and the idea of a simulation was less likely. Lesson learned, certainly don't assume other guys know what's going on in my mind.
  5. So, gotta ask: How did you guess? I did not think I made it obvious other than perhaps the absurdity of putting n00bs into this situation. I did intentionally hint with gAI noting something was strange, but I didn't think it was that obvious of a hint.
  6. I think all of us took a collective deep breath, and Ian pressed the control. I felt a very slight vibration coming from the floor, and I watched the hologram. I saw the ship start to move along the path laid out, and I let out the breath I had been holding. "It'll be fine," gAI tried to reassure me. "How do you know?" I asked, silently. "Trust me." I groaned inwardly. Out loud: "It looks like we're following the path, and it says we're accelerating, though I don't feel it at
  7. On your first statement, in an earlier draft of the chapter I had Shawn musing out loud about failsafes. I deleted it in the revision before posting because it didn't really have a good spot anymore. You can assume – as Our Hero did in my first version – that they would put some failsafes in there. On your second statement, that's coming ... . The ground work has been laid with certain education topics that were discussed, but it's something one likely won't realize was a hint until it actually comes out.
  8. This military seems willing to do a lot that we might consider unethical.
  9. I was the first to come-to, but the rest weren't far behind me. Only, "the rest" appeared to be just seven of us. Where did everyone else go? I didn't know any of the others with me. I looked around and we were in a room that was definitely not the gymnasium. There was a large window on one end with inky blackness beyond it. The rest of the room various smooth consoles along the other three walls, and a few on podiums maybe 3ft off the ground near the front. After we had all awakened
  10. Everyone needs a breather, even Our Hero.
  11. We shall see. Some things in general are ... "unsatisfying."
  12. Fair enough. I hadn't thought everything through when I wrote chapters 1–8 and I'm sure there will be some slight inconsistencies. Hopefully it's generally still enjoyable.
  13. The idea is that if you're a top and having sex with a bottom, it's just so ingrained in their minds that bottoms get no pleasure from their dicks that they just completely ignore it. Like you'd ignore your big toe during sex ... unless you have a foot fetish (no shaming intended if you do). So, yes, a 69 but Jake just paid Shawn's dick no attention.
  14. Yupyup, only took 16 chapters to get to the main setting. It's no Lord of the Rings, except it might be comparable in length.
  15. Twinkscape: Deep Space 9"
  16. Sometimes, you don't want to accept the reality of something so much that you forget it.
  17. Guys overlook an awful lotta stuff just to have sex! Thinking with a smaller head 'n' all that.
  18. Again, you don't want spoilers, and I'm not keen to give them.
  19. We are on the same page with it being reminiscent of the SG-1 episode (and I'm so glad you made that connection). I'm not going to say that's what's going on, or that's not what's going on, but I intended those who know the reference to make that connection. Correctly or incorrectly ...
  20. We shall find out ...
  21. Quite. But you also said you didn't want spoilers. And, I wouldn't give 'em in this case.
  22. Eh, I didn't want to do the straight-to-gay story here, especially forcibly. I'd rather force everyone else to be gay, to conform to my main character.
  23. Interest fan theory.
  24. That last sentence is great. And yes, I am attempting to also provide some commentary on the current American medical system. I will not comment on the events surrounding the Shawn-from-this-world's death. I will say I've written those events, but they are not posted.
