    So, I stumbled upon a documentary covering the effects of life for young LGBT people in Russia under the current climate.

    I'd like to say I'm shocked at the liberties taken in "enforcing the law". I'd also like to not lie.

    Decision Day! ...Or Not.

    So, remember that Michigan case that I posted a blog for back in March?
     
    Judge Milton Friedman, who presided over the case, is set to issue his ruling tomorrow.
     
    The hope is that he'll strike Michigan's gay marriage ban down as unconstitutional. Seven of Michigan's 83 counties are so hopeful, in fact, that they're prepared to begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses immediately should the ban be so stricken.
     
     
     
    EDIT: Judge Friedman stated: "I'm in the middle. I have to decide this as a matter of law. I intend to do so." He will issue a written opinion following a trial that is to begin...February 25, just over four months away.
     
    Four months away - after he also stated that the issue should be "expedited". Really?

    Laptop Fail.

    (NOTE: This is basically a longer version of my status from yesterday.)
     
    So...yesterday, the motherboard on the laptop that I've had for nearly 3 years decided that then was the perfect time to quit functioning. What's weird about that is, it was working for about an hour that morning, before I put it into "sleep" mode for a little while. 3 hours later...it starts acting like it wants to turn on, but it won't. Nothing that I'm able to do makes any difference.
     
    I take it over to a friend of my brother's, who's basically a whiz on all things computer - where I received the Diagnosis: Motherboard. We weren't able to open it up completely for a full look at it, but he explained to me what had happened. Luckily, the hard drive had nothing wrong with it, so he was able to get it out of the laptop and connect it to his own computer (told you the guy was a computer whiz ) so I could recover everything that I wanted off of it (put onto an external drive that I also have).
     
    Long story short: I won't be able to do much besides log onto the site via my phone (or a public computer, like in the case of right now) and post, until I can procure a replacement computer. That might be a few days, or more than a few - I just don't know for sure.

    For those of y'all who haven't yet noticed, amidst the consolidation of staff groups happening onsite, I have moved over to the Writer Support Team.
     
    This, however, means that my omni-present Libra scales pic no longer matches my color...again.
     
    Now, I'm not anticipating yet another color change any time soon, but in anticipation of that possibility, and the fact that I've had the scales pic for a while...I've grown bored with it. That said, as far as what I want to replace it with...well...right now, I'm open to suggestions.
     
    Hence...this blog entry.

    Maybe it's just me...but it seems like New Year's Resolutions are a lot like wishes. They're alike in the sense that whenever you go telling everyone about the New Year's resolution that you've set for yourself for the coming year...that's it, your resolution is now doomed to fail!
     
    What do you think - am I blowing smoke on this one, or is there perhaps some truth to it?

    I'm essentially picking up the discussion where it was left off yesterday, and doing it here. I had originally posted the article, followed by a link to its source (from Yahoo), but at that time the article was brief. It's since been updated to be much longer, so I'm not going to include the entire thing here.

    So I found out today that my last day at the park for the season will probably be sometime around the last weekend of our three-week Fall Harvest fest. That is the weekend of October 12-13-14. As it turns out, I'm going to be on the other side of the state that exact weekend, so my last day might end up being the 11th. I'll find out when the schedule gets updated next week. (I get paid bi-weekly, and today was the last day of the current pay period, so the schedule for the period following this next one should be ready sometime early next week.)
     
    It's definitely sad knowing that the end of my work season will now be coming up pretty soon. I mean yeah, I knew it would have to be coming up before too long, but knowing the exact time now kind of drives it home, yeah? Now I just need to figure out what to do with myself - employment-wise - for the time being. I'm definitely planning on applying to work at the park again next year, but until then...I really have two options: Either work elsewhere in the meantime, or since technically the end of the season is a "lay-off", I could file an unemployment claim. I'd really rather work in the meantime, probably at other seasonal jobs so that I don't have to "quit" to work at the park again. This way, I can save the unemployment option for in case the job search doesn't work out.
     
    But, we'll see...

    Huh. It's been one year now since I registered here on GA. Like so many of us, I too lurked around for a little while before decided to register for the forums on here. Also like so many of us, I too was drawn here by finding Q's Second Shot posted elsewhere, getting impatient, and coming over here to read the rest. (I've seen quite a few people mention this in chat, in case anyone doesn't believe me. )
     
    It feels...I dunno...odd, that it's been one year exactly as of today. In one way, I can't believe one year has now passed since the day I registered here. In another way...it almost feels like, "What? It's only been one year now? Really?" I guess I feel like that, because of all the people I've encountered in that year's span, most of whom have been around here much longer than me, and several of whom I talk to pretty regularly around here. I'm in a bit of a rush (going to a movie night with friends after I post this), so I won't take the time to go through all the names, but...y'all know who you are.
     
    It also feels odd reflecting on that one year since...because if you'd have told me what I'd get up to in that time, I might have given you a look like this: - and just stare at you like, "What??" From being a regular poster on several well-followed stories, to getting into writing myself (oh yeah *smacks forehead* ...latest is due Tuesday for the anthology! ), to becoming a beta reader for an Admin's foray into writing, to meeting a couple other members in person...
     
    I'll say it, it's been a great year here on GA. So... here's to another great year around these parts. And more.
