The U.S. Supreme Court will have to provide a definitive answer sooner or later.  Their decision on DOMA pretty much laid the ground work for most of the federal district court decisions over turning state bans.  In the case of DOMA and the California case, the Supreme Court sidestepped making a decision, but it appears the time has come where they must.   It's all happened much faster than I thought it would just 10 years ago.  And that is a good thing!

it appears in some counties they have been opening the court houses to issue marriage licenses on Saturday morning to beat the potential stay of decision since nothing could be done before Monday morning. :) I have a few friends who have taken advantage of this.
