I have been thinking back on my life since I lost Charlie, my first true love. The last 10 years have been good to me, now that Michael Earl Hendricks [Mike] my life partner has been part of my life. The Lazy L is raising Prime Black Angus cattle, and some of the finest blue ribbon quarter horses in Wyoming. There have been many twists and turns in our lives, we have a couple of new additions and some new ideas for things to come.

Epilogue: Well ... all went well for everyone at the ranch. Richard and Andrew settled in comfortably. Colt and Matt both continue to work for the company, and Mike and I are still deeply in love -- if possible, maybe even more in love -- with each other and the boys, as always. Our guardian angels still make themselves known to us from time to time. Kevin and Jerry were hired by Bill and Janet and are doing a great job for Lambert, Lambert & Andersen, Inc. Yes, the company is growing fas

The next morning we awoke looking at Casper Mountain as the Sun lit her so beautifully. We could smell the mixed aromas of bacon and coffee so we knew Julie was here. I just looked at the boys and Mike, who were still sleeping. They all were so handsome and loving, just laying there. I think I really could have just lain there forever, looking at them. Nevertheless, reality won over, so I shook Colt and said, “Wake up son; it’s your big day; come on now, wake up.” He opened those beautiful br

Well, needless to say, we each with our own partners, made wild passionate love, in the old bed, for the last night in the old bedroom. The next morning, we all showered together again, in the old bathroom. Then we got dressed, and went out to see Julie, preparing a wonderful breakfast of waffles with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and lots of good, fresh coffee, not the kind we had been drinking over the weekend, with all those grounds in it. After breakfast, Colt, Matt, Mike and I we

Chapter 26 I was awakened by someone playing with my manhood, and I looked and saw Colt looking into my eyes. He whispered, “Dad, God, I love you, I can’t even imagine what my life would be like right now if Charlie hadn’t brought me to you, those many years ago. You and Mike have made me what I am today, and you even gave me a brother, and a partner in life. Just promise me you will take care of yourself for me?” He was so cute; laying there saying those things to me. In addition, he was

Chapter 25 During the night, the horses woke me, and the boys were already awake. Colt was looking for the rifle and some ammo. He said there was a bear outside somewhere, and the horses were scared. Well, so was I now; I told Colt where the ammo was, and he took the lever action .308 Savage out, and loaded it. Then he ran out of the tent with Matt holding the high-powered flash light. Talk about two boys looking funny, just picture this; both boys were wearing nothing but cowboy boots; one w

I was the first to wake. I looked at the others; lying in such peaceful slumber. I was thinking to myself, what a wonderful night we had last night, all four of us; the love we have for each other is indescribable. Then my mind wandered, as I thought about what I would have done over, in my life, if I could have rewound time itself. The only thing I could think of would have been finding Charlie sooner; like when 'David the asshole' kicked me out of my home. It still hurt to think about all the

My God, I jumped to my feet and headed into the bedroom to find Richard lying there not breathing. I immediately started CPR on him, telling Mike, “Get the boys to turn this plane around and get us back to the islands, NOW!” God, I didn’t want to be so sharp with Mike, but I just hoped he understood. I pounded away on Richard’s chest relentlessly, holding his nose, blowing my fearfully quickened breath into his mouth, hoping and praying that he would just open his eyes. I thought to myself, why

Well, the aroma of coffee mixed with the wonderful scent of bacon cooking flowed into the bedroom, and I just looked over to see Mike lying beside me and next to him on the outside edge of the bed were two beautiful boys, sleeping together curled up hugging each other. What a great feeling ... the four of us were so close in our relationship that we were totally comfortable laying there together. Not a hint of impropriety among anyone of us. Moreover, I don’t think anyone would ever consider

Dinner was served and even Julie sat with us in the dining room. The meal was out of this world. Even Helen, who was a great cook in her own right, was amazed at how good the prime rib was, and made several comments about it, almost to the point of making Julie blush. That was funny, to say the least, having two women in the house who were getting along so well. Zeke, Mike, the boys and I were just eating and enjoying the food and making small talk. The boys were digging in to a point you did

Richard requested he be allowed to pick up the boys because he had some business to take care of that day in Rapid City, South Dakota. The use of Little Colt would make his business much easier to handle, so we agreed to his request. He told us they would be late coming home, and not to worry. Again, this was not something Mike or I would question, as long as it was Richard telling us this. I had also checked for a taxi service in Custer, South Dakota, and found a company there that would pro

I swear that I'm going to kill the makers of alarm clocks; 4:30 a.m. is too damn early in the morning for anyone to get up. Nevertheless, like it or not, it was time for all of us to rise and shine. Of course, if Mike and I had wanted to, we could just send the boys off to school with Richard or one of our other pilots. However, I really think that would start a war between Mike and me, not counting the boys. Our morning routine went as always, but with a slight difference. This morning, our

When we got back to the ranch it was late, or should I say ... early morning ... and we decided that we would first make a late-night / early-morning breakfast of waffles and strawberries with whipped cream. Mike did the cooking and I kept the boys out of their room until we were ready to spring more of their birthday surprise on them, for the rest of their birthday surprise was still to come. In addition, the early breakfast was just a ploy, to let Ben get some items ready in the barn as wel

We had been flying now for about an hour when Colt came back into the lounge looking around, still somewhat amazed at Cowboy. I asked him, “What are you doing back here, son?” He looked at me with a wonderful smile. “Pop, Richard showed me how to use the automatic pilot,” he answered, then continued saying, “Pop, it’s hard for me to believe that all of this is yours ... the big planes ... Little Colt ... the ranch ...; pop, I don’t understand it at all.” John came into the lounge and an

Well, the next few days were wonderful. Matt went in to see Doctor Chuck, on Tuesday, and all the stitches were removed, except for the ones that would dissolve on their own. He was given the ok to shower, and to do just about anything. 'Just about anything' meant no ruff-housing, for another week; doctor’s orders. This was ok, though, because his ruff-housing partner was away at school for the week. We took Matt to Demarkus' and had him completely outfitted. In addition, of course, I had Bil

The next few days were much less stressful for Matt. He and Colt were really bonding well now, and for that matter so were Mike and I with him. Richard did come out on Saturday, and we all went up flying in Little Colt. Colt did very well as always. He was getting to be quite a little pilot. Matt watched every move Colt made while he flew the plane. And the emotions from Thursday didn’t raise their ugly heads again, so far anyway. Richard was taking a liking to Matt, but not as much, yet, as

Well I can’t say who woke up first 'cause there was so much giggling and horsing around going on, Mike was tickling Colt, and Matt was on top of them. It kind of scared me, a little, with all his surgery, not completely healed yet. I spoke up and said, “Hold it, guys, cool down a bit. Don’t you all remember, Matt, here, just had a lot of surgery, last Friday night?” Mike said, “It’s all their fault, they both were tickling me awake.” He was laughing so damn hard, I thought he was going to fal

Larry met us out in front of the courthouse, then we went home. How wonderful that sounded. After spending the better part of a week in the hospital, home just sounded so good, and Colt was playing tour guide for Matt, telling him about every turn in the road and every blade of grass that was growing. I swear that boy could talk the ears off a jackass. Nevertheless, they were bonding so well, and so were we. Hell, by the time we got to the ranch, Matt was just our son, the newness was gone. Now

My God, how that boy made us proud of him, every time he opened his mouth. He was tired though, you could see it in his beautiful eyes. They looked so sunken and tired. Mathew was now able to be moved to another more private room, or should I say a private hospital suite. They were built to accommodate families that needed a place to stay, in town, and still be close to their loved ones. So I took advantage of them. The suite had a couch that folded out into a double bed, a love seat, several

Colt said again, “Hey, pop, what ya' doin' out here? Who’s that boy?" “Colt, please go get your pop for me, son.” Colt ran to the house screaming, “Pop, poppa Mike, come quick; there's a man in the barn with a boy, and I thought the man was you, pop!” Mike and I jumped off the couch and ran to the barn, following Colt, as we entered the barn. Mike froze in his tracks and I ran into him. Knocking him to the floor, I couldn’t see why he stopped. But Colt was still looking at someone other

Summer was ending way too soon; for Mike and me, there was only one more day now, before we were going to loose our son to the school at Crazy Horse. We both knew that he was only going to be away for four nights, but they would be the longest nights of the week. His enrollment was taken care of, and the dorm room was assigned, in the Little Crow dorm; I remembered John Two-Feathers, and what a nice man he seemed to be. One other nice thing was that with the school being so new, it had phones, i

The party was a great success, as most unplanned parties are; it’s when you try to plan them that they screwed up. Richard had told us that the airstrip was completed and underground fuel was filled and the FAA has given us their blessing on the new runway at the ranch. In fact, the runway was paved, not just a dirt one, because we were going to keep it open in the winter, and it was much safer being paved. We even took Colt out and showed him that it was painted with a white center line and

Well life goes on, and Mike came home from the hospital, about a week later. Chuck gave him a clean bill of health. Colt was turning into a wonderful young man, but he was still our munchkin, and I guess he always will be. Star and Colt were as thick as flies on shit as the old expression goes. Richard had been coming out to the ranch much more often now that the new landing strip was under construction. We even had a hanger already for the new KING AIR C90B turboprop that had been ordered and w

Mike got to the house looking for me, and found me, still working. When he came into the office, he just came up, grabbed me in a huge hug, and kissed me deeply and passionately. We kissed for a long time, or should I say we kissed, and kissed and kissed for a long time. Then Mike broke the kissing and said, “Where is our munchkin at?” “I don’t know, love, I haven’t seen him since we all went to work. I guess he is out with Star somewhere. You know I still love you, don’t you? Mike just

Mike and I damned near broke our necks, trying to find our shoes, and get to the back door, because Colt was gone, and it was dark as hell outside. We turned on all the lights we could find, and Mike was yelling for him. We headed for the barn first, but, not finding our son there, we headed for the corral. We both were yelling, “Colt where are you son? If you don’t tell us, we can’t help you or Star.” Mike screamed, “Where the fuck are you?” He was now in a panic, and I was about ready to ha
