    Iceland is one of the most progressive countries in the world when it comes to gay rights - but more conservative views are not unknown, and one prominent musician has started a social media storm by attacking a new sex education curriculum.
    Gylfi Aegisson was once one of Iceland's most well-liked musicians, known for his folk songs about sailors. But he's now attracted the ire of gay rights groups after criticising authorities in one small town who decided instruction about homosexuality would be included in sex education.

    Healthy gay men should be offered daily HIV drugs to prevent infections, say campaigners.
    A UK study, on 545 high-risk men, found one case of HIV could be stopped for every 13 men treated for a year.

    earlier on tonight i put up a status that i had a visit & WestcliffWriter asked if it was a ghost - i did do a long followup in the status but it seems i forgot about the word count - so this is why this log entry (lets see if i remember all that i wrote & can retype it here )
     
    yes - Ghost ... this house was built in 1910 & we were the 2nd family to live in it - the original person who lived here built it & the rest of the row .. over the years everyone in the family has had some sort of experience here .. although its normally me that they seem to like. some examples being -
     
    the kitchen light switch you can watch rock on & off..(my dad did the electrics & even changed that switch - but it still does it)
     
    i used to do the vacuum cleaning - plug the old dust buster in a socket in the downstairs hall way and work my way towards the back of the house - it had a long lead - but then it stopped working - of course i've pulled the lead to much and the plug has come out of the socket - yes there it is laying on the floor - plug it back in & silence - hmmm .. check the switch & its in the off position ! - switch it on & the beast comes to life - walk back and continue for a few mins and off it goes again ... same reason ! grrr.. walk back and now work my way back to the hallway .. dust machine going great guns until i look up and notice the plug is on the floor again BUT hoover still working !! i never did like the noise those things make ...
     
    the back bedroom (which is where i sleep now) when it was my sisters she awoke one night to find a man at the bottom of her bed dressed in WW1 uniform - boy did she scream the house down ! - the area up the road from us used to have a convent on it & during WW1 was a medical center for returning soldiers - so he could have come from there - BUT this part of the house wasnt built until the 1970's
     
    this room also has the sound of a piano being moved (you can hear the wheels squeaking and the stings inside vibrating - but the noise is coming from the flat roof ....and there has never been anything up there.
     
    same room - when my uncle & aunt came over to stay from OZ, one night she said she felt someone stroking her hair - thinking it was uncle being a bit frisky she rolled over to tell him off - but he was fast asleep.
     
    i've felt that around the house - it was something both my grand mother & mum used to do to me when i was a kid..
     
    bottom of the stairs there's a misty patch & i always felt it was an old man (grand father?) - same location theres been a strong smell of violets (grand mothers favorite flowers) - we generally never kept cut flowers in the house - some superstition on my mothers side
     
    All children under the age of 2 (i've got 16 nephews / nieces - and ever local neighborhood children) whenever they go into the front room will look up in the right hand corner of the ceiling and start to giggle and "talk" to whatever is there - anyone older than 2 never see anything - when these kids start to talk and get asked what they saw not one of them remembers..
     
    you can put something down in the middle of a table, turn around, look back & its gone - turn around again & ask for the item back .. and there it is again
     
    it may sound a little frightening (and ive told these stories to quite a number of people & they always ask "are you not scared ?" ) but i've never felt that way - and who was it tonight ? - i suspect it was my mother who died just over 4 years ago - just making herself known .. and as ive been typing this i keep looking over my shoulder as i feel someone there ....

    Ireland’s health minister has become the first member of a government in Dublin to openly say that he is gay.
    Tipped as a possible future prime minister, Leo Varadkar told Miriam O’Callaghan on RTÉ Radio 1 on Sunday morning: “I am a gay man. It’s not a secret.”

    There has been outrage in India after a minister in Goa said the state government was planning to set up centres to "cure" homosexuals.
    Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said treatment would be offered to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders to make them "normal".

    and who is he to say i aint "normal" ? - and what the heck is "normal" anyway ? we are all different from one another.. some tall, small, fat thin, black, white, purple with yellow spots... so again whats "normal" ?

    quick book review

    within another forum entry - http://www.gayauthors.org/forums/topic/39712-changing-gay-to-straight/- on page 2 i mentioned a book called "Hiding from Myself" by Bryan Christopher - - it was an advert that just so happened to pop up on that forum message - and talk about targeted marketing !
     
    anyhow - on with the quick review - the sub line on the advert was "can a gay person change" - Bryan is a Texan, a fundamentalist christian , and gay. this book describes his struggles to become an "ex-gay" through prayer, self-help groups, getting locked up in a mental ward, taking a job at Hugh Hefner's bunny farm - all to struggle to become "ex-gay" find a wife and become "normal" - he has some female relationships - but he soon strays and tries to go back to stage one - back to the prayers, the church, the men mentors...
     
    there are places in this book that i did chuckle though ... but a lot of the time it was "come on give up on the indoctrinated fairy stories, live your life how you want to".. its a struggle - no denying that - we've ALL had to struggle in one way or another coming to terms of who we are, and what society says we should be .. but first steps is loving yourself .. then worry about the world.
     
    i wont give away the ending .. just to say its a happy one.
     
    was this book what i expected - NO ! - going by the advert & the fundamentalist Christian angle that was there i thought it was going to be all preachy and "YOU'RE A SINNER - BURN IN HELL" (although that bit is brought up - and quickly shot down again) i quite liked this autobiography - i would recommend others to read it - and not just gays - everyone could do with a little bit more understanding - and i think this book helps

    aftermath of xmas party

    note a blog entry ...
    no need to panic today ... both were off .. tomorrow 1 comes back .. but manager is still off ....& i take wednesdays off ...
     
    loaded up all the photo evidence of the drunken debauchery to the servers so everyone in the office can view them - we do ask if everyone wants to join my department - but there's always some luke warm response seems they only want to do things within business hours & not socialise outside - oh well their loss...
     
    some of the pictures are in the category of "what was i thinking ?" .. or "i'm never going to do that again (until next time)" ...
     
    only 1 that i thought might gt me in trouble was me kissing a co-worker - nothing was said then & when he saw the picture he said it was a good one - he's cute, but off the market as he recently got married - so no idea what his wife would make of it if she saw it ... we can chalk it up to a bit of fun (which i'm happy to do ... perhaps we could have some more fun at another time - and yes that's a joke ! - there's no way i would jeopardize him in any way)
