    Oliver

This is a great story, I could hear the battle cries and smell the blood ! But I was also introduced to Oliver. Someone who has 2 true loves - Adam and his Henry. When Adam dies, we are really relieved that he has Henry to keep him company. Because we see Oliver more and more, withdrawing into himself. Every thing he does, is now directed as to how Adam had thought, what he would do in this or that situation, and to the growing desire to follow him to the other side. And when the time comes, he nearly does. So we sigh in relief, when, Oliver is also rescued from the Reaper. But, what will he feel when he sees the connection between the guy he loves and a demon ? What is that all about ? Will he understand that Adam is Zaidu's lover reincarnated ? How will he react ? I really don't know. Perhaps in the next book ?

    Adam

The story is very well written. The theme is horrific. ! O.M.G. !! 😧 In my country we had the Inquisition which was formally established in 1536 at the request of King John III. "Their major target were those who had converted from Judaism to Catholicism, the Conversos, also known as New Christians, Conversos or Marranos, who were suspected of secretly practicing Judaism. Many of these were originally Spanish Jews who had left Spain for Portugal, when Spain forced Jews to convert to Christianity or leave. The number of victims is estimated as around 40,000." "It held its first auto-da-fé* in Portugal in 1540. Like the Spanish Inquisition, it concentrated its efforts on rooting out those who had converted from other faiths (overwhelmingly Judaism) but did not adhere to the strictures of Catholic orthodoxy. The Portuguese Inquisition expanded its scope of operations from Portugal to Portugal's colonial possessions, including Brazil, Cape Verde, and Goa, where it continued investigating and trying cases based on supposed breaches of orthodox Roman Catholicism until 1821. * An auto-da-fé or auto-de-fé (from Portuguese auto da fé, meaning "act of faith") was the ritual of public penance of condemned heretics and apostates that took place when the Spanish Inquisition, Portuguese Inquisition or the Mexican Inquisition had decided their punishment, followed by the carrying out by the civil authorities of the sentences imposed. The most extreme punishment imposed on those convicted was execution by burning. In popular usage, the term auto-da-fé, the act of public penance, came to mean burning the convicted person at the stake, although that was a punishment for only the most serious offenses." I'm sorry about the History lesson, but I had visions of the Inquisition while reading this. And then I also remembered the Salem witch trials in colonial Massachussets ... There is no doubt about it - Man thrives on cruelty, greed and prejudice. Wolves in sheep's clothing ! That's all they are - the priests, the nobles and their sycophants, the sickeningly pious people who are always ready to point the finger at those who are different, who do not follow the established "Order". It is interesting that Adam was not saved by one of these pharisees - he was saved by a demon ! 😈

    Zaidu

You are very good at writing (we all know that), but your characters are amazing. Especially the anti-heroes. They give heart and soul to rid the ones they love from evil, from corruption, sometimes even from themselves. They are tragic and suffer abominably. But when they leave us, their souls are white and pure. Thank you Adi ! That was fantastic !

    Chapter 1

I remember thinking of my trip to Venice and visiting the Murano factory/store the minute his blue Murano piece shattered. And I thought of my trip bc I remembered how I felt when I bought my first Murano vase - I was so excited, and afraid, wondering if the saleslady would wrap it up in such a way that it would be perfectly safe for travel. And then, I thought of what it must have felt to choose such a piece, and for them to choose it together ! But maybe it was a present from Mark, something Sam took as only something to put his keys in ... ? Anyway, they were all wrong - Mark was fine wine, Sam was beer. However, this does mean there were no feelings involved. Only Mark as a true wimp, decided to take the easy way out and ran. I would have liked to know what Mark's letter said, bc I wanted to know what were the excuses he couldn't say to Sam's face ! He might have been an appreciative of the finer things in life, but he was no better than a yellow bellied one ... I really liked the story Adi. And I liked that the end was left open - Will Sam take the plunge ? Oooh, I love me some blue green eyes !!

    Epilogue

And so it is over. Boo hoo ! I loved everything about it. The characters and their (mostly) love for each other and their customs. How they tried to respect their "host-planet" and its customs. I think we could learn a thing or two about the Seraei - their loyalty and how they love unconditionally being two of them. It is the reason, that due to the unquestioning, categorical allegiance of Ronan to the King and his mate, that I believe his dismissal will kill him in the end ... to know he failed, will tear his heart and his soul into pieces The Seraei are militant without being aggressive in a negative way - I mean, only when they have to be, like defending the King or his mate from an attack. I.e. they won't prey on humans, even though they are far weaker. They respect their own privacy in regards to telepathy - they won't violate it. Their whole society conveys an atmosphere of gothicity, of feudalism but a the same time they're totally contemporary ... I really loved the way they lived. It's also good, I suppose, that only 1/3 of the Order members were on the path to corruption and treason to the King. If not, I'm sure Nico's Nana would surely notice ... Taking the memories from some of the more dodgy characters was a merciful and necessary solution. It was also great to see D. and Nico's bond reaffirmed and strengthened. Finally, I'm so happy that you are considering writing something about Ivan and Sho - YAAAAAY ! I know - In the future ! Please, don't be a stranger, and let us know about your next books !! PS. I really liked King Luthais. Don't you agree Watson was left a bit too flustered by his showing up ?

    Chapter 14

Hey Adi ! Don't EVER think you've lost your touch ! Not while I'm around ! I hadn't discovered you THEN (when u posted yr chapter and got little feed back) ... but I'm so glad I did in September 019 ! I've loved this story from the beginning ... I was actually reading a book, but GA contacted me through my email saying that it was too long since I logged in ! I actually found GA through another writer I followed in Literotica (do you know it ?). His name is Rob Colton and he's also an awesome writer - try reading his works. He has posted some of his works here too. You won't be disappointed. Anyway, after some research, I found you and couldn't be more happy. But I must tell you, I'm already feeling depressed that "The King's mate is already ending". I get too attached to the characters and for a while I'm going to feel totally lost. I just know I'll be reading the 3 parts again in the near future. Well, anyway, this chapter gave me mixed feelings, for two reasons: maybe what the strongest were knowing about Ivan's stance on his mating Sho, bc he considers himself a burden. I do hope Nico can convince him otherwise. It's very sad and I keep remembering he has beautiful shiny green eyes ... Not forgetting that after mating he will become a seer. (Unfortunately, he won't need his eyes for that). It's not clear what this ability will attain for him and his people, but ... it must be important or it wouldn't have been mentioned by that bastard when he was torturing him. The second reason was Lionel's death which had me in tears. I felt so sorry for him. His loyalty and his immense love for his mate were overwhelming, as his loyalty to the King, his mate and their people. His pure heart strongly contrasts with the rotting, soiled, blackened putrefied hearts and souls of those in the Order who went on a murdering rampage to reach their goal of power. And finally, what about Ronan ? I understand D.'s freaking out, but wishing the man was dead and telling him he was dismissed in such a harsh way ? Hmmm ... maybe a tad too much ? Nico won't allow it.

    Chapter 13

A very good albeit disturbing chapter ! 😱 What they found in that gloom and doom place was remarkable and quite the live horror movie ... The zombie parade seemed to be from Joseph Mengele's handbook - surely if any of them survives, they will have to be cared for at some type of CDC facility ? Of course the ones that were being bled, too ... Who knows what they have been exposed to ? It never seizes to amaze me, what mankind will stoop to, just for greed, love of power and sheer cruelty. 😖 Poor Nana ! Murdered by that bitch, bc she disobeyed !!😡 ☠️ Now, they will have to search other Houses of gloom - I wonder what they will find ... I'm dying to have news of Ivan ...
  8. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 12

So, are these zombies members of the Order who've been experimenting with Seraei blood on themselves? Goodness but these people are completely and shockingly do-do. I do hope Ivan's eyes can be healed. I can't bear to think about anybody's eyes being tampered with ! Ugh ! They will need a lot of reinforcements, bc that is a big place, there are a lot of wounded, others have been experimented on, they need to check for paper, data ... and who knows what they will still find ? Was the whole Order involved in this crazy scheme ? If Nico's granny was alive, she would die of shame !

    Chapter 11

Someone PLZ !!! Tear that man's fucking throat !! Cut his balls and feed them to him ! Cut out his tongue ! Impale him with a red-hot poker ! Make him sit on a red-ant hill (they sure love some meat) Bathe him in the shark tank ! And if he's still alive after all this, cut him open and let him stay like this ! Then again, put him together with this arsehole - that will do it ! Aaaaah ! I feel much better !
  10. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 10

This was very good - even though they're outnumbered, and that place where they're being held sucks out their powers. Every time I think of the Order and the Elders, I picture Panoramix from Asterix's Adventures. Only in his case, he was a nice old man. I actually agree with @Timothy M, bc the way they were talking about D.'s blood could mean they are after becoming Seraei themselves - once again, it's all about the power. I hope Nico is powerful enough to transfer some of his strength and power to D.. As for the traitors, I'll scream with the Queen in Alice in Wonderland - OFF WITH THEIR HEADS !! (I'm sure both Nico and Sho will oblige)
  11. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 10

I actually thought that too !
  12. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 9

Okaaaay ! This has just turned everybody's world topsy-turvy (this will pair with spic and span) ! It seems that their defense strategy wasn't that effective. They disregarded the employment of a sufficient number of all those with military capabilities - and took little time with planning to guarantee security or victory. I find it hard to believe, that especially after the 1st attempt on the King's life, methods where men, equipment, aircraft, ships and weapons are not more often employed and directed against the enemy. And this enemy is still unknown to them. Mostly ... Military strategy involves using military resources such as people, equipment, and information against the enemy's resources to gain supremacy. They had not enough people, no equipment and information was scarce ... Bc it is what the enemy wants - to reign supreme ! Landyn and Ronan, together with Simon, Sho and of course Nico, have to take a serious look at what they can get their hands on. And if they are a security unit, for crying in the beer, they should use effing guns ALWAYS ! Swords are cool and all, but they are not that effective against a bullet. As for mind "tricks", they won't work if you're under pressure - Nico couldn't concentrate and he's bloody powerful. Also, and I can't stress this enough, Nico needs to believe in his precognition. It's not the first time they realized that if they had listened to Nico's "feelings", things would have turned out much better. I'm very curious as to how they will get D. back home and poor Ivan as well. Gripping, mind bending chapter ! Yaaay !! Thank you Adi !!
  13. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 8

I loved this chapter, thank you Adi ! Finally, they are putting their heads together (and other things too) to solve real problems ... however - It is not a good thing to hide things from your mate (and King !). Even if it's with the best intentions ... They have just gotten together and most of their problems was due to lack of trust ! If D. decides that the problem with Ruy is for him to deal with - it's a Seraei legal and constitutional matter, after all - the fit will hit the shan !! I totally agree with @Thirdly - Ivan and Simon's food sounds aweeeesome ! I'm about to drool over the keyboard !! I'm dying to read about their reaction when they see Nico sitting beside D. ! Also Sho and Nico's fighting with those swords !
  14. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 7

These two deserve a good hiding ... though they seem to have finally gotten it right ... maybe. I won't hold my breath, though !
  15. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 6

Nico has a very good temperament. But these are the words I imagine he would say, after getting the cold shoulder in the dining room: "If you pissy ladies have gotten over your pms, know that whatever happened is between me and the King - no one else, so stop your tantrum now. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't play games with people I care about. It's called being a grown-up. You should try it sometime." I'm pissed at these people who, after hearing something he blurted out, thought he said it to hurt D..Why would he do that ?? He was just ranting, he was tired - he was NOT trying to be insulting towards his mate !! So, bc he said he felt dirty, D. also decided that he was talking about his hands. Why is it always about him ? They really don't know him at all, thinking he would deliberately hurt his mate. They are all hypocrites in their deference and respect for the King's mate. They are fake friends. As for D., he's just a manbaby. Instead of letting Nico explain himself, he decided to run away (again!) and lock himself in his study. He should realize that what Nico did at dinner, was to humiliate himself by letting everybody present read him - just so D. could finally understand the depth of his love. D.'s response was to carry his mate out of the room, ready to satisfy what he had been longing for. *snort* Battling egos and small minds .............. Someone said "People will provoke you until they bring out your ugly side; then play victim when you go there". Sorry, this was me ranting. I really got sooo pissed off with what they did to Nico, I just couldn't bear it. Not even the fact that D. "woke the f. up" made me happy, bc to me, that was just one more selfish response.

    Chapter 5

Shoot, this chappie shows us someone, who used to be lanky and wide eyed to the world, and is now a tease, a delicious and totally f*ckable hawt representative of the male species ... Seraei or not, the man is fine ! Of course they both love each other, and if the King is as beautiful as he was described, these two, together, should be regarded as a hazardous item ! Lol Saying that, I'm really worried about the way D. is reacting to the lust he felt for his mate. If he was hiding before, now, after the episode with the OJ, he's running. He stopped having his meals with the others in the dining room, just hiding at every opportunity. He says he "must keep his distance from him", attributing his attraction to his mate to lust and the mating bond. He should stop thinking in that demeaning way ... Of course a little lust in a relationship doesn't hurt (waggling my eyebrows ^^), and the mating bond is a powerful connector ! But he should listen to his heart as well and not only ascribe his feelings to "Vlad the Impaler" ! It sort of cheapens their love. Ronan said it well - "High school never ends. I want Becca". Of course he said it thinking of Nico. But I think D.'s behaviour is also green. He is suffering horribly, and it would all go away, if only they would talk to each other. But I loved the chapter. Thanx a lot Adi !

    Chapter 4

    D. stop behaving like a dingbat !!! Nico, plz bitchslap him ! Oh man, this is going to be hard - and I feel D. is feeling a bit sorry for himself ... resorting to being rude to Nico, following him with his eyes ... he wants him bad ! - Does he think no one notices ? And what's this ""I don't train with swords anymore" ? Well, isn't it about time he started doing it again ??!! Will he only rely on Nico, Landyn and Ronan to protect him ? What if he finds himself alone and in need of help ? He needs to make something of his life, and STOP MOPING !! I LOOOVE Henry, but then I've always loved dogs. Do you that might be Nico's granny coming back to stop these two from ruining the best thing they've ever had ?
  18. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 2

Addy, you're the firstest with the mostest !!
  19. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 2

  20. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 3

I was a bit disappointed with Nöel ... er ... Nico's behaviour. Surely, there is something immature about hiding yourself from your mate, and for two weeks, too !!! What the heck was he thinking ?? And his older friends did him no service either. Sometimes I wish Nico's granny was still around, bc I feel she would box their ears and tell them to cut that shit out, and bloody grow up - the both of them ! D., stiff as a board, acted as if he was entertaining a stranger - somebody he knows only so much, and has had some business with ... The way he retired after dinner, reminded me of a guest in a Hotel - after dinner he got up and without further ado, went to sit at the bar or maybe out for a breath of fresh air - impersonal, disconnected, and completely alone. As for the silly "boy" he has been having discreet peeks at D. without the guy noticing, and reacting very much as someone who misses what he used to have ! He's too quick to dismiss what he sees in D.'s eyes - fear ? He's in total denial. Again, THEY ARE NOT TALKING TO EACH OTHER !!!! These two boneheads were once interesting people. They need to be reminded that what happened was brought about through no fault of their own. Of course, a lot has happened, but then, that's why they HAVE to talk ! Even if your characters are being a bit much, I still love the story and the way you write, my friend !
  21. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 2

Yeah !! Addy is at it again ! This promises to be a mean story and I'm so ready for it ! I loved this chapter, it's gotten me at the edge of my seat !! Like the fantastic Bette Davies once said "Fasten your seat beats, it's gonna be a bumpy ride !"
  22. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 1

Nico sounds quite grown up ... and everything sounds disconnected, somehow. I know. He's only just arrived from Japan ... I'm quite curious as to what D.'s reaction will be when he sees him. So, does this mean that Nico won't have a bodyguard anymore ? Hmmm
  23. Bookjunkie56

    Epilogue

Every time I read about situations such as these, I always think - why oh why didn't they talk about it ??? Why couldn't the blockheads fu**ing talk to each other ? Pieholes are good for other things besides making out ... and other stuff It would save so much pain and especially misunderstandings !! First it was D. who didn't want to wreck Nöel's life. I kinda understand bc he still had Kris then. It would be in the nth degree of cruelty to say anything then, as if he was saying "it wasn't my fault; you can come back - and btw, I never stopped loving u"... But Nöel is also being a dipstick - he is paying D back for not telling him !!! GIME PATIENCE !!!! PLZZZ ! So, now he's off to Japan ? I wish he's stop the moronic behaviour ... whatever ! I even hate sushi ! Yuck ! Anyway, I do hope that he manages to grow up while enjoying relaxing baths in the fantastic onsen - maybe the spring waters are good for his brain ! Ugh ! I'm mad at them both ! The tragedy of both Keith and Lionel should make their eyes open ! BUT ! I love your story and I love your writing - so I'm looking forward to Book 3 ! Thank u Addy ! PS: Do you have a love of the Classics ? "Aditus" ... "Caesura" ?
  24. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 13

Jeeze Louise !! You had me bawling here ! I was really sorry about Keith and then Lionel. Now Kris and that goodbye from Nöel. I can feel time passing by and it's tragic. How the delusions of grandeur of a sick minded being, brought so much pain and heart-break. Through her, the lives of the King, Nöel, Keith and Lionel (at least) were ruined. But at the same time, bc of this, the King who considers himself a failure has changed his way of life into one of a true monarch for his people ... in atonement. So, it's not all bad. D. has completely changed his character. In the 1st book it didn't feel as if he saw himself as the "Defender of the people". He was really focused on his mate, though. Ok, it was expected. But the second book, most of it anyway, saw the collapse of the King's character as a "nice" guy - it toppled, with us only suspecting as to the 'why'. Bc he never talked to Nöel - and we looked at D. through Nöel's eyes, often - we couldn't stomach the way he was treating him. Yes, as you said, most of the readers really hated D. There was no reason apparent for his being such a b*tch ! But as this point, I'm wondering if Nöel didn't find the whole thing strange - he must have known how Keith died and why. Surely, his intuition would tell him that something was off. And the way he said goodbye, was as if he wanted to go into seclusion. Yes, I understand that even if Kris wasn't his mate, he loved him totally, and his death must hurt like hell. So, taking all this into consideration, I think that a come back for D. and Nöel is ... unlikely ? It's just that I don't see, at least in the near future, someone who took his relationship with Kris so seriously, can suddenly say: Ok, now that I'm free, time to return to what I really want. Or something to that effect ! Nöel is a pure heart and he is hurting. He wouldn't sully Kris's memory (or himself) like that ! But as always, I loved the chapter. Thanx so much Adi !
  25. Bookjunkie56

    Chapter 12

Awww I'm sooooorry !! What can I say, it feels awful to see someone like D. standing outside ("in the pouring rain" *) looking in - where the party is ! * It's more tragic this way ... In the first book, D. stood out as the beautiful, sometimes dominating king, who was kind and understanding - full of love for his mate. It's funny but I always thought he wasn't as confident as he pretended to be. Even when he started acting as an arsehole, it sounded horrible, but lame. Avoiding confrontations with Nöel. In the end he had to tell him what it was all about, but only bc he wanted him out of the house. It all sounded weak and cowardly. He sometimes reminds me of Heracles. Sometimes the performer of great acts of courage, like the famous 12 labours (the capture of Cerberus in Hades), a slayer of monsters but also a civilizer - founding cities and warm springs. He suffered horribly and maintained a huge appetite for food, drink and women. No "close" friends. He married twice, had 2 children from his 1st marriage - who he killed in a fit of the crazies. His second wife killed him in a fit of jealousy by poisoning a robe she had him wear. Somehow, I can see D. as the performer of acts of courage where his people are concerned, as the slayer of the monsters who try to kill him or the ones he loves - he defended Nöel from the poisonous parrot's mate, even though he was extremely weak, and he had done it before, with his former doctor and his father. As a civilizer, he has respected the planet he lives on, and his inhabitants. And he certainly has suffered tremendously - either by being under the influence of the foul turkey's poisonous herbs and not knowing who to trust anymore OR now, knowing what he has done to Nöel (even though with no fault of his own) and choosing never to tell his mate the real reason for what happened, bc he doesn't want to "destroy his life". As for his love of food, we saw that with the way he was longing for Keith's goat cheese and tomato canapes (Yummy !) - as for women, well ... not (snort) ! BUT, his Nöel is still the one (yay !) and I suspect he will always be. The way I see it, their bond was always strong, bc the way D. reacted in jealousy, or distraught if Nöel was in some kind of danger showed that. Even Landyn's brother didn't last that long I can see Kris as the jealous counterpart, but only in the way he complains - I can't see him poisoning poor Nöel. I hope one of these days, Nöel will violate his telepath's oath and visit D.'s brain. As far as I can tell, it will be the only way to really know what happened and why. Tschüss
