Thank you, Backwoods. I think because of the parallels and two main characters in Running with the Pack having a similar background it probably wouldn't be completed by me. At the time, it was a character Carlos wanted to introduce. For me it's, been there, done that. We'll have to see what happens. There are crossovers between my books and his, so this could be recycled in some form.

With the addition of Flying Circus to the CJverse, and some of the other books that were planned, I'm not sure what the actual time frame would have ended up being for this to take place, if it had actually been finished. Scott was going to first get hired by the Dads for their development company before eventually joining as an adopted member of the family. To Carlos, with my background, I was the logical person to give Scott a voice while he wrote his characters. We both wanted to make sure it wasn't a Cinderella story, while letting everyone have a happy ending.

It was a privilege to work with you. I'd enjoy doing so again.

Thank you, Jeffrey. You managed to meet him much earlier than I did. I didn't even realize the CJverse existed until after he pressed me to let him edit my work. I still have a difficult time imagining writing without him.

No, no, no, no. lol. I almost ended up with that in the original Running with the Pack until I managed to work around to how I wanted to end it.

Thank you, mwelch. Sadly with Carlos gone, any new entries to the CJVerse are no longer possible. Only he could write those characters as they should be written.

Thank you, Dhpiet. That new and better life is probably one of shock being pulled into the Abello/Davenport family.

Thank you, Mancunian. Part of me is disappointed this idea never made it to completion. Carlos did enjoy what I'd had written. While this chapter would have likely grown in size to build out Scott's life before actually meeting Brett and Cesar, I opted to have it edited and present as I'd showed it to Carlos. He had six other CJverse stories in the pipeline for known characters that like many foster kids it fell through the cracks. Maybe as I get older I'll brave adding to this, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Thanks, Howzat. Oh, there's definitely his influence in the way I write. When @Mann Ramblings edited this for me, his forth comment started with, "This is something I fought with Carlos on all the time." A particular style Carlos drove into me about not repeating pronouns too often. As my mentor, he taught me his bad habits. lol How about "Happy Daddy Day"? I got a few people teasingly calling him Daddy Carlos.

Thank you, tim. Those memories are why it's taken me so long do really do anything. I tried when GA asked people to submit things for a memorial a year ago but just couldn't do it.

At the time Carlos passed away, the only actual names in the chapter were Brett and Cesar. Everyone else was just labeled "insert name here." The outline was about a teen aging out of the foster system and getting found by CJ's dads after he'd become homeless. Ultimately he was going to be adopted as CJ's and Ritch's brother. It would have been a fun book to work with him since he gave me mostly free rein in creating the life of the MC before he met the dads.

Thank you, Toddten. I've mentioned in a few previous comments and likely a few more along the way, it's unlikely this particular story will ever be continued.

Thank you, Weinerdog. Nothing for me to get angry about. I've considered it a few times over the last year. While I've made progress on one of my own books, that's since stalled, I just don't have it in me to write this one. At least not yet. Maybe someday.

Author’s Note About two and a half years before Carlos Hazday’s death, he approached me about co-writing a book in the CJVerse. One, that scared the hell out of me since that’s his baby, and two, I thought it was a great honor. He gave me some basic parameters and asked me to create the main character’s back story. I threw something together and sent it to him. It went back and forth a few times before settling on this. The project kept getting delayed as he worked on other books in the se

Scott Waxman had a troubled childhood. Growing up as he did he faced challenges and had to learn to grow with them to survive. This is an introduction chapter of what had been planned as a joint project with Carlos Hazday for his CJ Series. He only got to see a rough draft as it was tabled due to other projects we both had going. In memory of the one year anniversary of his death I decided to share this. Unfortunately, the full story will never be completed. Thank you to Mann Rambling for editing this for me.
