  1. I made it into the next round! For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, I entered a writing competition a couple of weeks ago for the hottest sex scene. I wrote a blog post about it here: Thanks to your help, I won my first round and I'm now up against someone new!! Go check out this round's scene and if you like what I wrote, please vote! http://www.scorching-book-reviews.com/sscenec2017-final-16-erin-mclellan-vs-hudson-lin-emclellanwrites-hudsonlinwrites/ To vote, scroll to the bottom of the page where there is a box that says "Pick from the Sex Scene Championship Raffle Prize Draw." You can login with your email or a Facebook account. This was posted with permission from site administration.
  2. Aw... that's adorable!!!
  3. Aw, you guys... *blushes*
  4. It's with the editor!!! But seriously, so much pressure, I hope you guys like it!!!
  5. It kind of depends. Sometimes I'm writing something for the heck of it and it's just some old yarn I've spun in my head--those are usually shorter pieces. In those cases, I don't think there's much of me in there. But when I'm working on a story that's important to me, usually something longer, there tends to be more of me. None of my characters are completely me, but they may struggle with questions I've struggled with myself, or have some of my personality traits that I wanted to delve into and analyze. It's almost like those stories are a form of self-therapy and I come out the other side with a greater understanding of myself than when I started.
  6. I do find myself gravitating toward more mature characters. I certainly prefer writing more mature characters. I have really enjoyed many stories starring teenagers, but I never go seeking them out. It's almost like I accidentally stumble upon them and end up falling for them, hehe. I think there's a certain dynamism that comes with teenager/young adult life. High schools are full of drama, transition to college is full of drama. Teenagers are learning more about themselves, figuring out who they are. There's lots of great fodder there to work with. Adults can be stale and boring, j/k!!
  7. I don't like posting until I've completed the whole story. Mainly because I may want to go back to the beginning and change something. But if I've already posted the chapter, I can't change stuff. But that does mean there may be lulls where I'm not posting anything while I write it. Solution? Post one completed story, one chapter a week, and at the same write the next story! It doesn't always work out perfectly, but it's worked for me so far.
  8. Hahahaha, it would be my pleasure
  9. Fine by me!! I haven't heard of a rule where you can only vote once, so if the system lets you, I suppose you're allowed!
  10. Thank you!! I haven't actually read the other scene (a little scared to!) but I love the analysis!!
  11. I think we only find out after the voting closes! The competition organizer will email me to let me know. I'll update you guys either way. Thanks!!

  18. When I started this blog, I had a feeling I was going to be terrible at posting regularly. I’m not surprised that it’s been seven months since my last post. Oops! Two main things have been keeping me from updating this blog and from being on GA more generally. The first is that I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo in April, and then again in July. For those of you not familiar with NaNoWriMo, it’s a writing challenge where the goal is to write 50,000 words in one month—enough for a novel. In April and July, writers can set their own word count goals, and also join cabins to meet other writers. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful group of people also writing m/m romance and also hoping to become published, so I’ve been spending a lot of my time working with them to polish my writing. The second thing is that I’ve been submitting my work to agents and publishers. So far, all the agents I’ve submitted to have given me rejections, which has been hard, but it’s part of the process. Some publishers have also given me rejections, but I’m happy to announce that at least one of them said yes! Dreamspinner Press has agreed to publish one of my novellas!!! I’m a little shell shocked, to be honest. In fact, it doesn’t feel quite real. But I’ve got a signed contract and they’ve begun emailing me about the production process, so it must be real, right? The book isn’t scheduled to be released until next summer, so I still have a long ways to go yet. In the meantime, I’ve been working on the sequel to Ryan and Erik's story, called Embracing the Tension. I’m in edits right now, so it’s almost ready!! Stay tuned!
  19. I love interacting with my readers, hearing what they thought about my writing and my characters. And reader reaction can often drive me to write more, or write more quickly, but I agree with Myr that if that's the only motivating factor, I don't think it'll be enough--at least not for me. Not everyone is going to like what I write. Maybe someone likes what I write, but won't come out and say it. I can't base my value as a writer (or my satisfaction with my own writing) on external validation alone. As a reader, I rarely comment. It's never been in my nature to speak out like that. Posting on these forum has been a challenge for me as I try to engage with the community and with readers, but I spent YEARS lurking on GA without commenting or reacting to anything. Even now, it's difficult for me to comment on stories unless there's something very specific I wanted to tell the author.
