  1. “You know something, Peterson? It was refreshing to see you strike out with a chick for once. It gives us mere mortals hope.” -- He's a regular Captain Kirk, that one, he is. “Wendy invited me to have Thanksgiving at her place.” -- PROOF!!! Madison was a hot fuck, he thought. -- MORE PROOF!!! And gratuitous straight sex references! “Spies R Us better be hiring!” -- Are ALWAYS hiring (CIA, NSA, FBI, DIA, NGIA, NRO, DHS, AFISRA, DOE-OIC, DEA, BIR, MIC, NSI, State, DOD, DOJ, Treasury, just for a few) Bacon Station in GJ? Hmmm. I left in 2014, so it must be a new place. I'll have to check it out. GJ is Colorado wine country; unfortunately, the best winery shut its doors 5 years back. Edrice had entertained himself by following the couple -- Will Edrice follow in the steps of Chipper? Ritch figured they could call 911 inside the warmth -- First rule of First Aid: Call 911 BEFORE beginning first aid. Rule 2: Do NOT move someone unless their life is in imminent danger. Too bad about Defiant, but it may have saved them. Remember, Subaru is the state car of Colorado. Maybe next time the boys go night skiing, I'll have a wolf attack them. Would that make you happy? -- In Summit and Eagle counties, a moose attack is FAR more likely. I like the idea of throwing the horse shoe at someone, and it carving right through their forehead. Blood and gray matter all over! -- Like the Feral Kid in Road Warrior with the boomerang!
  2. Blaine and Michael end up at Frost together. Scott/Wally and Graham end up working for Dr Abello in oceanography. Michael and Scott are from the Tampa area.

    The Suicide

“So, how have you been losing weight?” “Mostly diet." It's what my trainers have consistently told me, "Lose weight in the kitchen; get fit at the gym." Since rowing season ended -- Carson is with GU Crew! I missed that detail (or maybe I just don't remember). continuity alert?: Returning to his place, he found Henk sitting on his own stoop smoking a cigarette. The corners of the man’s mouth had ticked up a smidgen when CJ approached him in the stables to say hello with Liebe in his arms. He even stopped brushing down the horse for a moment. -- When were Henk and CJ and Liebe at the stables together while Henk was brushing down a horse? Last we saw Henk, he was doing what he's doing now, smoking outside his house. Brad asked them not to come by unless he asked them to. -- He's letting Henk's resentment and hostility get inside his head rather than getting some wider feedback to validate or debunk it. Brad's got his own isolation problems, and this won't really help them or serve him well. But I get the impulse. "It’s only a matter of time before I use again." -- Oh, Henk, that is the very model of self-destructive thinking and despair. I hope Brad can recognize and report it. He is now officially out of his depth. And the uncharacteristic change in Henk's affect is another tell that he's spiraling down. “I… said… no… cameras!” -- That is a cameraman who is now looking for a new job. Hey, maybe he can work for Greg Nalbo? Of course it's the Fourth. People often make bargains around their deaths (Thanksgiving, Christmas, I don't want to see another year, I can't take all the new life in springtime, everything dies in the fall so why shouldn't I, etc), and suicide is often similar. People who want to die usually find a way to make it happen one way and another. Brad will probably look back and wonder at all the clues he missed along the way. I hope he doesn't hold himself guilty or responsible for too long. It will only add to his difficulties and prolong his recovery.
  4. Keith, like Betty, was already around when God created the heavens and the earth. https://imgur.com/t/god/z5Xl6Q4
  5. No hint about what brought Bruce to the attention of the police. Was he trying to sell the drugs? As far as Ritch knew, Bruce Donovan never made it to a class at the Academy again. -- Well, with his attitude, Bruce should fit right in for a transfer to VMI. "at least you could take over if we had a problem.” -- He doesn't want to depend on Otto the blow-up co-pilot? an altitude of 4,000 feet -- Really 10-11,000 feet since COS is already at 6,000. “It’s tradition until someone puts a stop to it. One of the best lines in the book is something my brother and my parents harp on constantly: ‘Beliefs don’t make us better people, actions do.’ It’s in the final chapter.” -- Culture changes when leaders make the effort to change it. "find yourself attending junior college somewhere in Bumfuck, Oklahoma." -- If Ritch has what it takes to get into a service academy, he has what it takes to get into all but the most elite programs in the country, most of which will drool over getting him. The AFA isn't interested in his network of family and friends, but EVERYONE else is. Cadet Fourth Class Simon Bremen from Tampa -- Any chance he knows Scott or Michael? Hulk SMASH! "Ritch has a different approach. He accepted whatever it was they did to him, but he didn't stand by after. He took his time and approached the matter in a calm way." -- "You can bend the rules plenty once you get to the top, but not while you're trying to get there. And if you're someone like me, you can't get there without bending the rules." Tess McGill, Working Girl.
  6. Moving back to Miami isn't so bad (I hope nowhere near Surfside), but in her early 60s, Mexico with Liebe would be a new adventure.
  7. She's not as old as Betty White or Keith Richards!
  8. “Yep. Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. They have a marker on the spot and you can touch all four states at the same time.” -- Except, of course, that more recent and accurate surveys have demonstrated that the marker is off by 1800 feet. The first marker was placed at the originally surveyed and current spot in 1868. In 1925, some 57 years after Congress had first attempted to specify the spot, the problems surrounding the originally misplaced marker were brought up before the US Supreme Court. In order to amicably remedy this original surveying error, the US Supreme Court then redefined the point of the Four Corners, officially moving the Four Corners point roughly 1,800 feet (550 m) east, to where the original survey had first held it to be all along, and to where it remains to this day, duly marked. typo alert: "yuk burger" and "Y, U, K" -- The menu calls it a yak burger from local yak farms (Mesa View Ranch yak burger) “Shit. Man, this sucks. It’s a pain to be a white man in this country. Blacks, women, and everyone else always pick on us.” -- Drop Don and his cap somewhere around Minnesota and U in Southeast. Has he paid NO attention to Ritch's stories and actions, not to mention wardrobe choices? "I just got a call from the cops. Your buddy, Bruce Donovan, was arrested last night.” -- Which only proves that Bruce is white. Gotta wonder why the cops call Brett. Was Bruce name-dropping? Cuz if he was, that's NOT going to go over well.
  9. Having made a fool of himself while talking to a member of the British royal family would go down in history as his most embarrassing moment. -- And because no one but Brad knows about it, it will play on and on in his head, ambushing him when he least expects it. I find my secret humiliations/shames to be some of the hardest to let go of. Harry "invited me to visit England to talk about the homeless vet issue there and in Commonwealth countries. And he said he wants to convince me to be part of the Invictus Games. Whatever that is.” -- Uh, probably not going to get invited to the UK. Harry seems to be all but exiled except for family events. And how does a wounded vet, deep into vet issues, not know about the Invictus Games? “Rashid Kahn." -- RASHID!!!!

"I’ll be in New York City for a few days." -- I hear John Jay has a decent program for Criminal Justice. "He may not have lost limbs like I did, but the demons plaguing him are just as destructive. You can’t see his wounds like you can see mine, but they’re just as painful. . . . Next time you run into a vet, be kind. You have no idea what darkness haunts them.” -- THAT is an excellent summary of the difficulty. From the outside, none of us knows what fire another is fighting.
  11. If YOU design it, it won't be a Calder! HANDS OFF my mobile!!!
  12. "I want to become a priest and work with kids.” -- Bold words from a gay man, these days, even in the Episcopal church. "I’d love to work for the FBI.” -- Ah, CJ's Director, or maybe for the Secret Service.

    The Party

typo alert: The contingent from the nation’s capital, along with CJ and Owen, where staying at the old Davenport Family home in Malibu. -- WERE Through a reputable firm, César also hired a babysitter to watch over his granddaughter while the adults attended the Academy Awards. -- Freddy or Eddie weren't available? typo alert: Tom and César had remained by the pool and where now talking to a good looking guy with a dazzling smile. -- WERE “We use Spanish too, but that’s what she hears all day long from her nanny." -- Nanny? Did something happen to Aba? Do you have editors? What do they do? 😎
  14. Mark cracked up. “You lucky shit! I dated a Greek girl when I was your age. We didn’t last long, but man could she take dick. Right before we broke up—I was being deployed—I shared her with a buddy. We tag teamed her most of one night. That’s the closest I’ve been to someone’s hard dick. It was hot to feel him fucking her ass while I was in her pussy.” -- No gratuitous gay sex, but I have to put up with meaningless straight sex? Bastards pushed Brad hard, and the soldier would forever be grateful. -- Damn those "FRIENDS"! What were they thinking?! a bottle of Redbreast -- An EXCELLENT choice! I drink it myself. Not much more expensive than Jameson or Bushmill, and so much better. Our psyche requires we prove how wrong the government was. -- Korematsu has been discredited, even disowned by some, but it's never been overruled and is still the law of the land. If he lost hope, he was bound to lose everything. -- He's right about that. Hope and friends are the only way.

    The Place

Kintsugi, eh? I've only seen the word "kintsukuroi" for the same process. I find it incredibly beautiful and meaningful, and it surfaces both my melancholy and my sanguine sides. Carson’s from Delaware -- So he certainly knows the former Senator, yes? Funny how CJ trying to help him led to him trying to help others. -- The nature of empathy and compassion is to flow from one to another to the next. Anything bottled up becomes rancid narcissism. "Damn it! I’m a fucking genius.” -- Ah, to be young and have all the answers to the world's problems.
  16. "Hope you did a good job. I’d hate to have to hurt you.” -- This is what passes in the military for encouragement, yes? Hockney's Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) sold at auction for $90M three years ago. And B&C have TWO of these? Fernando is FUCKED! And the insurance underwriter is already looking for reinsurance. César turned his attention to Brock. “Where are you staying in D.C.?” -- Wasn't this settled at Brock's Bday party? The difference between high-off-the-ground, four-wheel-drive and two-wheel drive? The 4WD gets stuck farther off the road. "They thwarted my attempt to get his ass fired.” -- But will they thwart her attempt to get his contract non-renewed? “Yep. Had to check up on Mom and Dad. They’re still behaving, not going out partying, and their graves haven’t been robbed.” -- ROTFLMAO!!! “But now you are it, and I need to concentrate on what’s up ahead. You, and CJ, and Ritch, and Ozzie, and Liebe are my family. And I’m a better man with all of you in my life.” -- AAAWWWW! Sappy. Romantic. Lovin' it. Yeah, but I started the story with two breakups and haven't had any amongst the younger crowd. I want to be a bit more realistic, but it's tough to do when you fall in love with the characters. -- BZ&C could become an open throuple? No mention of the Calder? Are you hiding it from me?

“Corporal Sabrina Coates. Although I went by Steven when I served.” -- I'm surprised she volunteered her dead name. The trans people I know avoid them as much as possible. 50 devices removed, a few left in for actual security. B&C should think about billing the sleaze for the trouble of taking them out. I wonder if the FBI and CBI would appreciate a heads up on where all they were located, or even some of the plaintiffs against him? When President Reagan signed the bill legalizing people who’d been in the country for a long time, my parents, my brothers, and I became citizens. -- Simpson-Mazzoli, 1986, a fact unmentionable in today's GOP, a relic of a saner GOP past. "Mr. César.” -- LOL! Though I have to admit occasionally doing similar with my students. "The wrought iron gate, do we need a code to open it?" . . . “Nope.” He shook his head as he spoke. “We’re locking them open for now. I don’t like the prison look." -- Aaaaawwww, how about a nice white picket fence, then? Lost Spirits Distillery -- You mean Willy Wonka's Booze Factory.

    Fernando

You know, close to the door so you can smash and grab with ease. -- THANK YOU!! I started with Miranda Priestly as inspiration. -- I'm afraid, now. VERY afraid.

“He went away for the holiday weekend and at the last minute decided to stay an extra day. I received an email from him asking me to meet you." -- My guess? Mr Llorosa gets to come back to the office, clean out his desk, and go home to write his book, "How To Turn Patrons Into Enemies." This isn't the first time he's screwed up, but I think it will be his last. I mean, really, how much incompetence and patron anger is a board willing to put up with? As for storing the art, I'm sure either the MOCA or the Getty would be happy to make arrangements. It's not as if LA has a shortage of possibilities, especially if poaching a patron of CAMALA is possible. Miles was not having it. “Oh, hell, no. Here’s how it really went down.” -- Oh, YEAH! “You’re not Brett Davenport.” The woman lifted her oversized sunglasses and rested them on her stylish mass of silver hair. She squinted at César. “Who are you?” -- God, no wonder Fernando still has a job. This woman is as entitled as he is. “Minimum wage, plus tips. . . . But while I was on The Voice, I used this place as a makeshift rehearsal hall. It gave me the chance to test out what I planned to perform on the show. I feel a sense of loyalty to the owners.” -- Good on Chip! So many would just look for the next location where they could get paid more. Chip is paying back and paying forward. "the Calder mobile," -- OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH! I WANT THAT!!!! Whichever house they install it in, I'll break in and take it!!! When Fernando sent Larry the intern to greet B&C, I figured it was just to escort them to the office, which would have been a bit of a diss but still professional. The story you've told is a shitstorm that will make the rounds of LA and the international art museum world for the next several years. Fernando is going to be working at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah for a while.

burlwood -- love me some burlwood “You’re a dick. All you want is to make money off impressionable teen girls.” . . . “And what’s wrong with that? I think of it as proper marketing.” . . . “It’s called prostitution, Chipper.” -- No. It's called straightbaiting. "they’re moving ahead with Gambit." -- Only if they can get Taylor Kitsch back. Hard to believe he was doing high school roles at 30. "We might want a live-in caretaker." -- Freddy? Eddie? BCZ?
  21. BlueWindBoy

    Eddie

"Flying cross country to catch a concert isn’t as easy as when you’re single and in school.” -- LOL “Not Freddy!” -- But whyever not? He could have fun with Eddie, yes? one of the towels they had swiped from the Ritz-Carlton -- Can the AMEX Black handle the charge? Eyeliner, mascara, and rouge on a Saturday morning? -- Eyeliner, oooookaaaay. Mascara, a bit much. Rouge, yep, I'm with Brett. Who wears rouge? Anytime? Anywhere besides on stage? And "Darling?" Is he related to Natasha Fatale? Serge would have been a much better referral. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwsAzbSzDEg douche canoe -- I learn new things all the time. An interior designer partnered with a cosmetologist. Are there any more stereotypes you want to jam in here? "I hope they keep one or two cameras just for security purposes of course. LOL" -- I'm sure they'll need plenty exterior cameras watching the nooks and crannies where people might hide, and, of course, the pool.

The Arizona State Senate is spending millions in taxpayer money, rented out the Phoenix Coliseum, and has visiting Republicans from other states looking to see if they can do the same thing. It is a TOTAL shit show. They may not deep down believe it, but they sure as hell got into it, doubled down, and refuse to back off or let it go.
  23. I would LOVE to be able to drive Trail Ridge and Independence in the winter. I wonder if it can be snowmobiled?
  24. BlueWindBoy

    Greg

"Jeans and Chucks are okay" -- To impress? As east coast snobs? I would think 3-piece, or at least chinos or gray flannel and dressier shoes with the dress shirt and blazer. I understand why B&C made the offer they did, and I completely approve, but the neighbors won't be happy about how it compromises their property values on comparable sales. And they'll know EXACTLY who sold for that price.
  25. typo alert: “Well, maybe I’ll see you again if you visit Breckenridge, Keystone, or Cooper on Thursday or Friday" -- I think she means Copper Mtn. Ski Cooper would be on the other side of the mountain from Vail, near Leadville. The forty-eight miles of U.S. Highway 34 running through Rocky Mountains National Park were unlike any other road Ritch had ever driven. -- Yeah, you can't do that until Memorial Day or after. Trail Ridge just gets too much snow, even in dry years. It and Independence Pass (Aspen to Leadville) compete to be the first to close and the last to open each season.
