  1. @Philippe Thank you for reading and liking the story 😊 If you ask me, it's not necessarily easy to give life to fictional characters, so I'm really glad I managed to do it well ☺️ Well, I thought about making George confess, but it seems out of character to me, at least for the time being.
  2. Well @drsawzallYou can praise me! No, I'm just kidding 😜 But you could say something about how Mr. and Mrs Hopkins are so nice to Karl You can always find good in the bad! 😊
  3. @OkiegradHmm... Maybe 😏
  4. Karl woke up on some bench somewhere in London as dawn was peaking through the cloudy sky. He sat up swiftly, putting his feet on the ground before he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. That night had been a long night, but he still managed to get one or two hours of sleep after wandering in the dark London streets. He just didn’t feel like standing up and going anywhere any more. He felt tired, but not the kind of physical exhaustion. No, he was tired from roaming aimlessly and co
  5. Two weeks passed. Nothing particular happened during this span of time. Karl was gradually adapting to this new way of life. He actually liked seeing and doing new things other than the usual farm work with his parents. Breaking out of his usual routine to settle a new one. Besides, it was only temporary. The Hopkins family being always so nice and warm with him made it much easier for his effort of integration. But as for George, he had been acting the same way toward him as the very
  6. On Sunday, Karl went to church with the Hopkins family as well as George. As far as he could remember, his family had never really been religious. They had never gone to the local church (Or maybe they had when they were young, but he couldn’t even be sure about that). And when he had asked why his mother had replied that they didn’t have time to waste to worship some invisible God that wouldn’t help them to make a proper living and with all the work that had to be done.
  7. @Anton_Cloche Yes, exactly!
  8. @Anton_Cloche I've just made the needed corrections. Thanks for pointing it out!
  9. Hello @Anton_Cloche Thank you so much for your positive and constructive comments! I'm definitely going to continue publishing it, be assured of it. Concerning the historical accuracies, I find your comments really interesting, I mean I wasn't sure about some things when I was writing it, so I'm glad to have your opinion And about the writing itself, I do use grammarly, and it only suggests changes which I do not accept all the time. Also, I keep proofreading every time before I publish to avoid small and stupid mistakes like spelling. It's really nice of you anyway to be willing to let me know about potential things which wouldn't be right, so thank you Chapter 11 should be approved soon to be read. LittleCherryBlossom26
  10. When they came back home in the evening, Karl found George leafing through some huge book as he was sitting on the bed they had started sharing last night. He seemed to be so focused on what he was doing that Karl thought it’d be best to leave him alone and join Paul’s parents in the living room. He closed the door just like he had opened it, without a single noise, and made his way downstairs swiftly. “So what do you think of the university?” Mrs. Hopkins asked him as soon as he
  11. When Karl woke up the next morning, he noticed he was alone in the bed. He pulled himself at the centre of it, laying down lazily as if he didn’t really want to get out of it. He was used to getting up pretty much early, mostly before dawn, and had never had the occasion to sleep in late. But here it wasn’t like home at all. And he wasn’t home anymore. He could perceive the dim light through the curtained window. He fluttered his eyelashes, taking a slow look at his surroundings. Nothing ha
  12. Later during dinner, George and Karl were sitting down next to each other, Karl being on the side that was the nearest to the stove. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins were sitting next to each other as well, Mrs. Hopkins across George and her husband across Karl while their son was alone on one end of the table, the one opposite the stove. The meal was peaceful; everyone was eating in silence until Mrs. Hopkins decided to break it at some point. “So, George, tell me, how are your studies going
  13. And about George, there'll be more information in the following chapter...
  14. @drsawzall I guess I am the one to blame for it 😅 I wanted to focus so much on the difficulties of communicating when not speaking the same language that I pushed it aside, although I thought about it. Maybe it was too modern for me also 😅
  15. Toward the end of the week, Karl spent the whole afternoon in the city centre with Mrs. Hopkins. The sun was still high in the sky when they went back from there. “Thank you so much for helping me with that, Carl,” She said with a warm smile. “In times like these, we all need to be united and help each other, especially those who are in need.” Karl just smiled at her as a response. “Well, I think you would like to rest now. It is well earned,” she then said, still smiling at him.
  16. The following evening, when Paul was back from work and before it got dark, the man went out and took Karl with him, and Karl wordlessly agreed to go with him. As they were walking across the city, Paul got a cigarette out of his pocket before he lit it up. Karl just observed him wordlessly from the corner of his eye. After they kept walking for a while, they ended up arriving at a pub, in some street. This particular place looked unfamiliar to Karl. Paul entered the building first, fo
  17. @drsawzall Honestly, I don't know what to think any more.... Well, I posted a request yesterday to try finding one, but I don't think I'll be successful...
  18. @drsawzallI'm really glad you do! I don't know if you've seen the thread I published yesterday on the forum, but so do you think I should keep publishing even without editing?
  19. Thank you so much!
  20. @Headstall @northie Thank you both so much for your replies Well, to be honest, I am not really familiar with the whole editing thing as a novice writer, but I can only agree with what you say. But what if I can't find another editor at all? I was so glad when that person offered to help me and I knew it was too good to be true... Publishing with edits already made would be better so, wouldn't it?
  21. @Bushman60 Thank you so much for your positive comment I've just published a thread on the forum about this story, because I need to have my readers' opinions
  22. Hello to anyone reading this! So, this thread is about my first story which I've started publishing recently on this site : Live, Love, Lose. Well, those of you who visited my profile know it, I am French and so at the end of 2019, I decided to take up the challenge to write my own story in English. I'm very glad I've chosen to do do it! This has been quite an adventure, with ups and downs of course, but so enriching!! And so, as I've recently discovered this wonderful site and decided to publish it to have others' opinions, I've managed to find an editor thanks to whom I could edit the first three chapters. Hence, I'd like to have your opinions about these edits. Are the chapters better with or without them? And then I'd like to ask you more importantly : Should I continue publishing chapters or wait for them to be edited?" Here's a link to the story so you can go and check instantly : https://gayauthors.org/story/littlecherryblossom26/live-love-lose/ Thank you in advance!! Any feedback and constructive criticism is very valuable to me, so feel free to tell me anything that could help improve this story (in comments or you can even message me ) Actually, the thing is, the editor I've found won't be able to continue to edit the following chapters because this is too much work for him, and I can perfectly understand, because it took so much of my time just to write the whole thing...And I don't think I'll be able to find someone else who can do this... That's why I really need your opinions about whether I should keep publishing or not. Have a good day/night and stay safe ❤️
  23. Once Paul and the young boy were gone, the woman turned to her husband. “Poor boy… I can’t imagine what he must have gone through…." the woman said with a sad expression plastered on her face. Her husband only looked at her with silent eyes, seemingly too thoughtful to say anything at the moment. She really wondered what could have happened to him; how such a young boy could have ended up becoming homeless in a country that was not his. This mere thought made her heart clench pain
  24. Obviously, he wasn’t outside anymore. He was met with the sight of a creamy ceiling adorned with yellow stripes. He began panicking for some unknown reason. He swiftly sat up and his eyes fell upon a rather large window which was right at the centre of a wooden wall. There were long white curtains that were drawn and which weren’t opaque at all, letting in all of the bright morning sunlight, and other ones that were tied to each side of the window. They were white as well, but unlike the fi
  25. Soon enough, they arrived at Hull and before the boat was tied up to a dock, Karl was waiting, ready to leave the boat. He got off rather quickly, eager to be back on dry land, so much so that he even forgot to thank the man who had taken him there. It felt somehow weird for him to set foot in a land that wasn’t his, but it was intriguing at the same time. Artur got off the boat shortly after he did, and stood beside him. “It may not look as nice as Denmark, but you’ll have to get
