Joel may feel a bit less lost and alone now that he has a friend and potential love interest in Davin, and Davin may feel the same with Joel. Whether it's puppy love, infatuation, lust or love, the resulting rush of positive feelings will dull whatever anguish they might also be dealing with.
-
Way to go Davin! I'm beginning to think Colt is playing matchmaker.

Nana's alcoholism is a wrinkle in the plan. I suspect it's not a new problem, and Jack's parents would know about it; possibly something they could bring up in a court case. Maybe it's the reason they forbade her from being in Jack's life? Nevertheless, things are looking up.
-
Nick has photo's from one beating. Nana sounds like she's a tough old bird. The school psychologist, and house parent would have plenty to say as evidence I would imagine. If Jacks parents are the vain, money-grubbing, social climbing people they are portrayed as, then having an ugly, revealing court battle would be a serious publicity problem for them.

My inner-psychoanalyst is saying that I'm concerned by Jonah's seeming acceptance of all of the insults about his butt. Kids at his age are usually extremely sensitive about their self-image and acceptance by their peers. His humorous remarks could be masking a deeper hurt.

You've said that the story is already written. If it won't ruin anything can you tell me if the circumstances of Trace meeting Joel will be disclosed to others? Knowing how tribal kids can be in the real world when it comes to schools and sports teams, I would expect there to be some hurt feelings, and animosity from his former school team mates. I wonder what kind of trouble his former school mates will cause for Joel if he comes across any others at these creek visits and camping trips? Hopefully the Twins and Colt will have his back?

Lot's of drama unfolding. Surprising that Trace and Celia hid from him the fact that they had asked Joels parents for his documents. Should I take from that, that Celia had known Joel was gay but kept quiet about it? The awkwardness between Davin and Joel will have to end soon. I'm quite surprised that Colt invited Joel to go "camping" with them as I had thought he was still a little cool to Joel's presence in his life. This provides an opportunity for Joel to start over with Davin.

I'm not suggesting that todays kids have it easy, but decent role-models do exist and are visible these days. Laws in many countries are better than they ever have been, but laws don't eliminate hate and prejudice, and kids are still kids with heightened emotions, hormonal imbalances and still live in a society where homophobia is built into the foundations. When you're struggling with your emotions, fears, and identity, the feeling of aloneness can be overwhelming no matter what year it is.

So they got rid of the creep mr Johnston and replaced him with Whoopi Goldberg! Good job. Peace and tranquility returns. Nicky has been BIZZAY researching and Jack approves! Now they have to see what's up with the mysterious grandmother Jack has never met.

Lisa is an evil uncaring bitch with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Joel's dad may have vestiges of a backbone but it's not nearly enough and definitely too late. A parent should look out for their children, protect and nurture them. He needs to kick Lisa to the curb to protect what's left of his family. Cody will be traumatized by all of this. Lisa doesn't deserve either of them. Joel's heart and mind must be broken; mine would be in his place. Jace and Celia will have their work cut out for them trying to rescue and rebuild Joel from this experience. I'm not sure that many of today's young people can understand the terror that people felt in previous decades at being discovered, coming out, and all that it brings with it.

No one knows the circumstances of Joel and Trace meeting, yet. I wonder how that knowledge might affect them; for the better I would hope?

So, the proverbial cat is finally out of the bag. Colt knows, Davin knows, Joel knows about Gavin, Trace knows. that just leaves Celia and Gavin. Colt probably knows about Davin and that he has a crush on him which is why he sent him to get Joel. Showing up shirtless and stripping to go in the water was certainly suggestive on his part. Trying toi entice Joel. I would have liked for Joel to spontaneously lift up to return the kiss, but that would be kinda sappy and maybe you have more in store later?

Very nice, happy wholesome chapter. Surprising that Jonah hasn't learned to implement a filter. Curious to see what develops between Jake and his grandmother.

All I can say about this chapter is ...awwwwww

In this fictional theoretical universe that this story exists in, the feeling I'm left with is that Jack's parents don't really have any feelings for Jack other than he be absent from their daily lives. They fulfill their legally required obligations to feed, clothe and educate him until he is of legal age, but don't want him around. Given this, I think they won't give a rats ass about the schools notification, because they want to keep him away from them.

Jonah really ignited a firestorm! The world is filled with sanctimonious "Karens". Let's hope she gets put in her place and then dismissed from her volunteer position. The order has been shown to have come from the top down, and Mr G was in a tough spot. Being sent to separate rooms, while not what they want to happen, is not the end of the world for them. I'd be worried about who would look after Jack if he was paired with a new roommate.
-
Poor Jonah and Dannie. Jonah has it bad.
-
My parents never did the sex talk. I guess they were too embarrassed. My dad did make us it down and watch Debbie Does Dallas with him and mom, but by then we already knew what was what and how it all worked. Mom left the room after about 10 minutes LOL and I was mortified to be watching it with my father.

Very nice chapter. I really liked the spontaneous kiss at the end. HOWEVER....the description of Noah at breakfast, added to the description of him in the hallway encounter, has me worried for Noah. He's obviously quite distraught and I worry that he may hurt himself. He did show allot of good qualities toward Nick and others, even though he ultimately fucked up.
-
It was nice to see Nick go ask for help. Too often we don't. mental health is sort of the last great taboo/unknown. I think that in countries with universal health care, more people do get treated because we don't have to ay to see a doctor, however I feel it's still too much of a taboo to admit psychological difficulties so most do not get help. Stiff upper lip, be a man, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, big boys don't cry, etc.. Worse yet for males, as we are expected to be non-emotional, and stoic.
-
Nicks friends are incredible! The whole school and administration are so accepting and supportive it beggars belief. I like this fictional world; it's not the one I grew up in unfortunately but I'd like to live there.
-
Boom! Nicks friends do everything right, Jack does everything right, Noah is discovered as a two-timer (or more?) and breaks Nicks heart. Nick needs to make amends with Jack asap.
-
This chapter has confused me about all 3 of the principals. There's not enough background info on Noah or Jack really, to see what has enabled Nick to make a choice. Jack certainly needs saving, but that's not really the basis for a relationship, and Noah has been making a huge effort to meet Nick on his level and timetable.

How can I leave a heart, A crying sad teardrop AND a fingers crossed emoji all a the same time?

You're not making this easy on us to pick sides. They all have good qualities, and have done or said things that weren't always the smartest. Typical teenagers.
