    "Saudade"

I think what we are about to find out regarding Brandon, goes far beyond Nicholas's belt...
  2. (11 years earlier) It was a sunny morning at Seagull's Bay Public School. Twelve-year-old Ledger felt the game's rhythm thrumming through him. His sneakers squeaked against the blacktop as he dribbled, eyes locked on the hoop. He loved these moments, where his worries melted away, lost in the competition and the rush. "Pass it, Ledger!" Flick called out, his voice sharp and insistent. Ledger pivoted, scanning for the opening, but Flick's attention shifted before he could make the move.
  3. @Cane23, @pvtguy, @VBlew and @Danners here i am smirking my way through the conments, determined not so say a single word more until I post the next chapter later today...😅
  4. I can definitely see this world expanding...who knows. 😉
  5. The house's silence felt suffocating, magnifying every creak and rustle in the stillness as Nicholas paced around nervously. He reached for an armchair and sank into it, feeling the weight of his lingering suspicions pressing down on him. The oppressive darkness seemed to squeeze in on Nicholas from all sides, engulfing him in a suffocating embrace. He buried his face in his hands, desperately trying to make sense of the chaotic whirlwind consuming his mind. The haunting thought of Brandon
  6. How could you? There is such a thing as running wet through the house @Cane23 shame on you for not getting to that door on the first knock! 😅
  7. As they should, you sneaky, sneaky @Danners
  8. Such a beautiful analysis @Paladin thank you. I'd say Pawn as the potential to become the best of all men. And maybe the leader they deserve rather than the one they thought they needed...
  9. The most satisfying thing I've read today. (Insert evil laugh)
  10. I was raised in the eighties. If I ever talked to my father the way Brandon does I'd get a proper whoopin'. Not saying it was the right thing to do. But it was definitely inevitable.
  11. All good @Cane23 was just teasing you! If i ever write a character named Bradley I'll credit you.
  12. Who's "Bradley"? 😜
  13. It's my pleasure @austinbiguy thank you for reading them!
  14. A soft glow shone over Nicholas and Marcus's disheveled sheets and tangled limbs on the other side of the motel room's thin curtains. Their hearts enjoyed a silence they had never experienced before. Peaceful and disarming. It ushered the promise of something they could not grasp yet but desired. Nicholas stirred from his sleep, his mind still clouded by the remnants of a restless night. Slowly, he turned his head, his gaze falling upon Marcus's peaceful countenance. He watched the boy's chest's
  15. I appreciate the words and your constant feedback @pvtguy it means a lot!
  16. Your welcome @Danners ❤️
  17. I do. But I ain't telling! 😜
  18. Sweet @Cane23 such a beautiful analogy. I wanted to write a chapter about Pawn finding his way back to his father, only to realize is father had never really left. In a sense, he's a part of Pawn as much as Pawn was a part of him. They never really connected in life, but they will in death. Inadvertently, in the process of writing, I realized Pawn might be one of my favorite characters in a while. He's just...limitless in possibilities. ❤️
  19. You basically just described my writing process. Thank you @A Pal for such a poignant comment...❤️
  20. Thank you @VBlew Pawn definitely needed this "recess".
  21. I think I can safely say that you @Danners understand how my brain works. Hmm, but I bet I can still surprise you... ❤️
  22. We can hate Nicholas for cheating and lying to his family. But calling a man "pathetic" for pursuing who he really is after years of living a life he loaths? I don't bring that kind of judgement to my stories. I wanted to write a tale about a group of people who make questionable choices. And the impact that leaves in their footprints. They will all pay a price. One way, or another. Thank you for sticking around @Cane23 ❤️
  23. Thank you for always being respectful and kind with your approach @Craigy even when you disagree. ❤️ I know you'll slap me up, not down. Welcome back!
  24. There are literally thousands of other wonderful stories to read on this site, my friend. Go forth, and indulge...
  25. (32 hours earlier) The night swallowed Pawn as he stormed away from the ranch. The forest loomed before him like shadows, but he didn't care. The anger was boiling inside him, a tide of heat and resentment that felt too big for his body. Bishop's cold, dismissive words rang in his ears, the weight of rejection pressing against his chest until it hurt to breathe. "Why does he hate me?" Pawn muttered, his voice trembling as he kicked at a rock in his path, sending it skittering into the
