"Fianchetto (Part 2)"
CasualWanderer82 commented on CasualWanderer82's story chapter in "Fianchetto (Part 2)"
I went to a military school @pvtguy and, well...I could write a whole story on that. 😜 -
Omar stood up, his silhouette bathed in soft shades of cerulean as moonlight filtered through the attic's skylight. He drifted across to the small table by his bed, where a vintage vinyl record player sat, its needle still, waiting. Andrew watched him, captivated as Omar crouched by the old player, handling it like something precious, almost sacred. "I found these in the closet a few years ago," Omar murmured, his voice low and distant, as though speaking more to himself than Andrew. A

It's an absolutely honor to have you follow me on these (sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier) journeys @Musclejunky -

Takes a seasoned reader to appreciate the balance between the beauty but also the pain. Thank you for always being so kind @Danners with the words you share. -

Thank you @Cane23 and yes, the pieces are really just metaphors for how the characters behave and move inside the story. King/Omar is a complex character, powerful yet caged inside the challenging confines of his own mind. By now we already know he didn't survive...but his shadow is still very much a prominent figure inside this "game". -

Dear @pvtguy having been through something similar myself, your words touch me deeply. Thank for taking the time to share them. They mean a lot! -
(Louisiana, New Orleans, 33 years earlier) A boy with rich brown eyes and a tousle of dark hair meandered through his backyard, his fingers tightly gripping a freshly folded paper plane. He examined it closely, tracing the whimsical doodles he had sketched across its pale wings with pencil, a treasure from his imagination. Taking a deep breath, he stepped back, and with a swift motion, he launched the plane into the sky. For a moment, it soared gracefully, dancing on the breeze as if it wer

I think Bishop feels amputated. Pawn is a lifeline, but he can't see that. Not at the moment. He might need to see things in a different perspective...
-
There are definitely pieces still in the wings. And some main pieces waiting for their time to shine. I can't lie...I'm excited about this "game"!
-
True. But Bishop's flawed, bound to make mistakes. He sees Pawn as both a reminder of everything he lost, but also as his chance to preserve a part of himself that King took with him. The coming chapter will flesh out Bishop's character, for sure. And maybe put his current actions into perspective... They're all in their early 30's.

Grief is just the way our souls deal with trying to keep our deep love for someone alive. You gotta walk through that pain if you wanna come out of that "dark forest'.
-
In chess, as in life, sometimes you got to take a step back. Pawn and Bishop need to find themselves before they can find each other...😉

"Hey, Bishop...woke up thinking about you. Which means it'll probably be one of those good days. That fucking fog around my head...I only see things clearly when you're around. You know...the other day, I was thinking...most people who end up dying, at some point, probably feel like they should've had more time. But I don't. And I think about death all the time. I guess I'm programmed differently... 'cause even as a child, I always knew I'd die young. Probably killed or something...I just didn't

Is that what they call it now? "Working"? 😜 This game is just getting started.

You bet it will, @Cane23! Buckle up!

"I loved it when you took the wheel on our trips. I know you think I hated when you drove the van, but I didn't. I loved it. It was the only time I felt safe in my life. Safe to just sit back and enjoy the ride. The smell of Rook's joints in the back seat...the sound Knight's lips made when he read his books silently. And the way you'd just...let me be. In peace. Not having to deal with any of the shallow bullshit. It was perfect, Bishop...it was heaven..." The deserted road stretched befor

The "King’s Pawn Opening" is a bold, yet quite effective move used by most top-tier chess players. It sets the tone for the whole game. Let's see how the other pieces react... Thank you @Cane23 for always sharing the sweetest words!

You and me both, @Paladin This story was in the vault for a while but it came back last night. I had to grab my board and ride this wave! Excited to see where the boys lead me.
-
Aww, @A Pal thank you! A little pressure not to disappoint never hurt nobody! Trust me, it'll be good!

Bishop gripped the steering wheel tightly, his calloused fingers tracing the worn leather surface as he drove along the winding country road. His tall, muscular frame shifted with a subtle tension, and his chestnut eyes, deep, warm, narrowed as he took in the vibrant blur of autumn leaves dancing around him. Thick, dark brown hair framed his face, cropped close but exuding strength, while a well-groomed beard accentuated his strong jawline. Usually, his lips spoke of a gentle smile, radiat

Yet again, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude to be included in this list, not once but twice! And what a fantastic collection of stories, as vast a landscape as the authors' imaginations. Truly an embarrassment of riches. Thank you @Myr
