In most US states, the kids aren't ever given a choice in these situations, nor are their opinions ever permitted, and that's what we're facing here. It wouldn't matter if Billy brought up that the boys didn't ever want to talk to Calvin, which no doubt Billy would have if I had written that scene, because the judge wouldn't ever take it into consideration. I'm sure you can find articles about men who have sexually abused their children who were given or maintained custody of their victims. (For the record I haven't looked, but Florida does exist, so....)
