    Chapter 2

Things are in motion. I too wonder how Joshua's aunt and uncle's connections will be brought to bear. Fortunately, Jordan and Cameron's families are connected as well. I'm interested to see where you take us @Paladin. Will this be a big battle or a sudden collapse? As of yet, the opposition remains in the background.

Thanks for dropping a comment @CincyKris! This chapter is a turning point in many lives as well as in the story.

    Chapter 1

Truth. Unfortunately, child exploitation isn't a unique issue as @Paladin and others have stated. I wish it were fiction, but the horrors and devastation are very real and far too commonplace. Thanks for bringing visibility to the ugly truth my friend! I look forward to the adventure.
  4. Hey @Tris. Although a generation behind, I can also relate to John Renkin. The eighties and nineties in a rural, Midwest community certainly did not create an environment for a young gay kid to understand the world or himself objectively, especially as a pastor’s kid. Internal homophobia is a real thing, and it makes it really difficult to live honestly or joyfully.

    Chapter 1

The seagulls... Were they just seagulls fighting over a fry or a metaphor for the raucous and ugly battle to come? Joshua's life has been full of death and abuse. Trust will not be easy, even for the two men he now sees as surrogate fathers. He fears losing them like he has everyone else, but he doesn't want to disappoint them either. What a heartbreaking and anger inducing start to part 2, but there's finally hope for Joshua and for Jordan. Cameron has his work cut out for him as he tries to hold their forming family together. This vacation certainly isn't going as planned, but hopefully they each find the peace to cherish what they've found.

    Love everything about this @Onim!
  8. A beautifully written love story that surprised me with tears and left me wanting more. Fortunately, this is part 1. After reading it, I will definitely be reading any and all future parts @Paladin shares.

    Chapter 8

Well written, well paced, and well where's the rest of it!? 😉 I will wait patiently, but know I'm excited to read on when you gift us with more.

    Chapter 7

Lol. Missed opportunity. 😉 I'm still stuck on Joshua's untold story, and I don't think one more chapter is going to tell it.

    Retirement

October 17th, 2024 While it was his birthday, it wasn’t a happy day. He was only sixty-eight but felt as if his life was over as he looked around the office that had been his home for over four decades. The man had a house, a very nice house, but he spent as little time there as possible. The fifty-sixth floor corner office was the only place he was even remotely happy. Perhaps more than most men, John Renkin felt worthless and lost outside his professional domain. The investment s

  14. I really had no expectation that anyone would be willing to read this no-holds-barred story. Your praise is humbling and encouraging on many fronts. More on the way. Be sure to follow to be notified when new chapters and stories are shared.
  15. I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching medals and recognitions! On that note, Pulitzer Prizes are awarded annually in May. 🤞 More research to do! 🔍 Government (including the military) have long been discriminatory and homophobic. Sadly, many are feeling these very real challenges (hiding who you are to serve) again over thirty years later. 😢 I did do that, didn't I?
  16. Friday August 28th 1992 The late morning sun beat down on the formally dressed crowd gathered in the famous Rose Garden outside the White House’s West Wing. Although the ceremony was a special interest story to be described deep in the following day’s Post for some, it was a moment others would never forget. “The FBI Shield of Bravery is presented for brave and courageous acts occurring in the line of duty or within the scope of FBI employment which may extend to major assistance to a

I agree! Especially as I’ve watched the things unfold over the past month here in the US.

    Wanted Sons

Thank you for the kind notes and excitement for more! I plan to keep writing Land of Lincoln stories. I never imagined I would write something of this scope, but now that I have, I know there are other story arcs I want to explore. I just have to pick a direction, and maybe write a few more chapters about John Renkin (Draining the Ocean). I’m behind on Marcus and Joshua’s story as well (Marcus graduated from law school just before Christmas!).

lol. Touché. It was always there, in the “I happen to already have an appointment” moments and showing up at the school together. They must hide their relationship well though as it never came up in the comments.
  20. Monday August 24th, 1992 Roger Cicero promised Samantha a front-page-worthy story, but she had gotten so much more, both professionally and personally. Sam set the paper on the dining table in front of her, sipping lukewarm coffee as she reflected on the past two months. June twenty fourth had been a life changing day. She had woken up that morning to find her byline on the front page of the Windy City Times. It was an accomplishment she nervously shared with the beautiful Melissa

Trilogy, huh? Maybe. There are many more story arcs to explore for sure.

    Implosion

For sure! It is me who would like to explore all those events. As the scope has expanded, I have found it harder to fit in all the things readers (and I) should know. It is great to hear what people feel is still missing! Thanks friend!

Life has been really busy, so writing is happening in shorter sessions. These longer chapters are also much more time consuming to proof and edit. Typos sneak through, especially for the early readers. I try to fix things as I find them or others point them out, but it is a struggle for me to balance getting everything right and actually publishing something. This story would benefit from a good going over, and I may do just that at some point. There are plenty of things I’d like to edit or expand, but there is at least one more chapter to write before I can even think about that.

Thanks @Paladin! While I would have like to chronicle every arrest, there are other, more important events to write about. As for the Deck’s clients and supporting network, they are not forgotten. Neither are the boys who were sold off or still missing. LA and NYC might be satisfied to sit back and take the win, but there are others who are still unable to sleep at night... As you point out, "this rescue is just the beginning of them being fully rescued from their past.” Your statement applies to many in this story. ❤️
