A beautiful tale of one man's ever so fleeting love, and the trials and tribulations surrounding it. Through the pen our protagonist paints a vivid and compelling picture of his past, from the people he loves and has loved to the experiences that have both shaped and destroyed him.
Every sentence is beautifully crafted and one can clearly see the amount of research and love the author has put into every word and phrase, which is beautifully of its time. It is so, so very poetic and I found myself rereading passages over and over just to admire the craftsmanship.
Despite being part of a series, this can very much be read as a standalone; I myself happened upon this lovely story while browsing around for historical romance, and I can safely say that this is one of the best in the genre that I have read thus far, and it both surprises and saddens me that there aren't more eyes on this.
This story has very much earned the 5 stars I have given it.
