A beautiful tale of one man's ever so fleeting love, and the trials and tribulations surrounding it. Through the pen our protagonist paints a vivid and compelling picture of his past, from the people he loves and has loved to the experiences that have both shaped and destroyed him. Every sentence is beautifully crafted and one can clearly see the amount of research and love the author has put into every word and phrase, which is beautifully of its time. It is so, so very poetic and I found myself rereading passages over and over just to admire the craftsmanship. Despite being part of a series, this can very much be read as a standalone; I myself happened upon this lovely story while browsing around for historical romance, and I can safely say that this is one of the best in the genre that I have read thus far, and it both surprises and saddens me that there aren't more eyes on this. This story has very much earned the 5 stars I have given it.

  2. I would love to do that. Stories like this deserve ALL the love 🥰
  3. This is such a beautiful tale that I had to make an account just to express my feelings on it. Every sentence is beautifully crafted and one can clearly see the love, care and effort you put into every word and phrase written, which is beautifully of its time. It is so, so very poetic and I found myself rereading passages over and over just to admire the craftsmanship. Cedrick makes for a wonderful protagonist and his Adrien is so very charming. In fact, I feel all of the characters in this story are so complex and perfectly demonstrate the point made in the very first chapter that not everything is black and white. I found myself particularly affected by the conflict between Cedrick and his father. Theirs was a relationship just as tragic as Cedrick and Adrien's, possibly even more so in my opinion. And despite knowing from the beginning that Adrien would be lost, these final chapters were still able to keep me glued to the edge of my seat. For someone who's into historical romance, this just hits all the right spots. You will have at least one fan who will be waiting patiently for the next draft of this story if you ever decide to do it.
