It Was A Rescue Day - 4. Reroute Rout
The short trip to meet Amberly and Brianna was busy. Bobby and his crew needed to properly dispose of the hazmat waste and procure the proper documentation so they could alter their flight plan without actually altering it.
Puck presented another problem.Their exit documentation showed four living people, now there were five. With all the bandages around his head and torso, Puck looked as if he might not be alive, but he stiil needed paperwork. There was no seepage so Bobby decided to wait until they were in a more sterile environment to unwrap those bandages.
Puck still hadn’t opened his eyes. He wondered if his eyes were green like Amberly’s? Maybe they would edge to a different shade, like blue or brown, something that would complement his red hair.
Bobby hadn’t been able to grab any medication. Hopefully whatever Puck was on would last, but so far, Puck hadn’t woken up and he didn’t seem to be in pain.
Several hours into the flight, Bobby started to worry Puck might not wake up. How cruel would it be to rescue him from the center only to still lose him? Bobby stroked Puck’s hand. The Hanovers’ would hate him. Amberly would hate him. He just knew it. Puck just had to make it.
Rather than dwell on what he couldn't change, he focused on things he could, like take calls from Amberly and settle Brianna’s nerves.
“He’s oblivious, as usual." Brianna looked unsettled, even over the communications screen. "Gads Bobby, I love that boy but he’s so strange sometimes.”
“And that’s why you love him. He’s loving and beautiful and sweet and innocent as they come with a nasty side that can make a whore blush. But right now he’s focused on a problem and if he were at home he would be in his lab and we wouldn’t be in his way. His lab rats would be seeing this side of him and they are used to it. They don’t get to see the other side. Aren’t you glad?”
“Yes,” Brianna agreed with a sigh, “I guess so, but it’s so frustrating.”
“He loves us. Just let his brain work right now and don’t worry about the little quirks.”
“When will you be here?”
“We should be arriving in your space sometime in the afternoon in, oh, three maybe four days, and I should have him at the hotel a few hours after that.”
“Hurry, love, and don’t forget your promise.”
“I know. Dishes and diapers.”
Brianna laughed and Bobby clicked the communications device to off. He turned to face the captain, who had entered the cabin while he was talking.
“About our entry to the port…” the captain grinned, “I just received a better offer.”
