Nightmares - 1. Chapter 1

Run! Hide! Searching out the shadows, I find the darkest corner and pull myself in.

“Shhhhhhh!” I whisper to myself, ordering my pounding heart to stop. He’s going to hear you. That erratic thumping will give us away—

Too late!

Snatched from the safety of the darkness, I feel weightless, flying through the air, until I crash down on a stack of patio furniture stored away for the winter.

A whiff of mildew surrounds me. It mingles with the metallic smell of blood already in my nose.

“Please--” I squeak out, but my desperate plea only amuses him as he grabs me by the hair and drag me off the summer lounge chair and onto the floor.

My body trembles. I can feel the cold concrete through the denim covering my legs. Down on my knees, I can’t see his face.

The single light bulb dangling from the ceiling sways, rocking light from one side of the room to the other. It makes the basement feel like a boat instead of what it really is…a dungeon!

“Please let me go. I promise not to tell anyone!” I beg.

He doesn’t answer. There’s a sound, it’s terrifying, the distinct metal teeth of a zipper. When his laughter vibrates against my ear my stomach pitches.

“No!” I screamed as I was pulled into a warm embrace.

“Wake up, K.C. you’re having the nightmare again!” Robert gently shook my shoulders a second time. His voice was thick with sleep.

“But it was real!” Through blurry eyes I see the nightlight in the hallway. It’s enough light to make out our bedroom. Everything is in its proper place. The nightmare is over. I’m safe…I’m home!

“It was just a dream, Kase.” He said as he pulled me against his chest and tucks the blankets around our bodies.

I close my eyes and snuggle into the warmth of his touch, trying to forget about those childhood memories that always bring the nightmares back to life.

“I’m safe…” I murmur against his chest, “I’m home!”

I’m trying to deal with some painful memories from my past. I hope that sharing this with others will help me face the pain.

I think you are brave. Don't ever shut up about things that you need to let out. None of what has happened is your fault and there fore anything you need to feel ashamed of. If you feel you have to let it out, do it.

 Remember I am always here to listen if you need. I hope your nightmares will eventually be just words on paper, not something to wake in the middle of the night.

 Thanks for sharing! It takes a great deal of courage to take a stand against these memories, and a great deal more to write and share them, soo...

And often, writing about them does help, so, i hope you can better deal with them now.

 you are such an awesome person!I could almost feel what you described... these little bits you share inspire a lot of us to open up, and share too! :) thanks again.

Thanks Frosty! I'm trying some writing therapy and hope to work on these awful things from my past. I'm glad you understand.

I hope so much that this writing does help you to feel better. You seem to me to be such a great person. It must be a measure of your great strength that you have become such a cool guy in spite of what was done to you in the past. I wish you all the best.
Thanks for reading. I don't feel strong opening up my weakness in my past but I do have to face it. Thanks for understanding.

Writing is a way to let the past go and see new ways of dealing with it. The past might be horrible but it helped shape who you are. For being a survivor and having the strength to stand on your own, I commend you. Been through enough crap in my own past. Just remember you have people who care for you now and want to see you happy.
Thanks Wayne. I don't know if I feel better now that I've let people know about my past. Gosh, not private anymore with it open for anyone to read. I hope that letting go of the bad memories will let me find peace.

First time reader here...snippets of the past framed neatly. Keen pacing. The rush of adrenalin as something evil fights something good. Good will always be victorious. You are brave to right this and believe me, it works. I got shot and hijacked ten years ago by a stranger and lived to publish the story. It was so therapeutic and good for my health so i salute u. Braveheart!

Thanks Mr. Harris :P It's scary writing about my own life vs. make-believe. I'm really trying to work on these fears. Thank you!

In "Square Peg in a game of dominos" you had a similar "scene" right ?? If my memory is correct I guess I now know where you got inspiration from :(

I hope the bastard who did this to you was caught and was brought to justice !! :pissed:

Thanks Sly, unfortunately, he was never punished for what he did to me. It’s been years, but some nights it comes rushing back as if it was yesterday. :( I hope that reposting this helps someone facing the same nightmare. Thanks for reading.
