Scars - The things we bare - 5. Reality
Reality
You said you loved me for who I was
I waited for you night after night
Just seeing you gave me a buzz
But that has come to an end
I took each word and held it close to me
Feeling lavished by you and wanted too
Yet you had him and are his husband to be
Why did I feel I stood a chance?
The tower door had been opened happily for you
And all my dreams were laid at your feet with my heart
Still you smiled, still you asked, and I gave my soul too
Now I drag this form back into the darkness again
For you I let myself believe in happily ever after
I took pride in me again, feeling I had made my choice
But you are gone except for your echoing laughter
I’d fixed your heart, yet you left mine shattered
I let myself pretend I was human, to allow myself to feel
I let down all the walls and came totally unarmed
Yet you had already made another happy, made a different deal
You have what you needed and have flown away
I seal the wounds again and promise no more harm
I hideaway the hideous form from prying eyes forever more
No longer will a smile, a word, and a promise charm
For what do you do without a heart?
I seen you kiss so warm and tender wrapped now in his arms
Yet you talk to me like it shouldn’t hurt
I’ve lost the sun, a love, and nothing keeps me warm
The smile and nod help hide the hole
For you there is now wedding bells and love
Smiles, hopes and dreams for all to see
Your heart flies before you, radiant like a dove
I lock my door and climb the tower once more
For now we stand each back in our own worlds, today
You with sun and light for all that things you want
Me behind the curtain in the dark as is my way
All is as it should be again in our reality
