Scars - The things we bare - 2. Ashes of Life

Just seen another couple of friends vanish from my life. One due to an accident, one because they needed a break.

My life lies in piles all over the floor.

There are photos of family and friends,

Notes of goodbye, letters of love, poems of pain

Life moves on and you look backward through the door.

Where did my dreams go to die?

I use to have so many of them.

There were things I wanted to do, to see, to be,

But somehow life has just passed me by.

Now I see the holes in my life.

That is where a mother was and a lover was.

There is where my own family should be.

Why am I alone in all this strife.

I pick up the refuse that I own now

Feeling the pain of being alone

I slip the smile into place

And don’t let others see how much I tow

The jabs don’t even hurt any more

They seem so insignificant.

I wonder why I don’t cry

Maybe because I’m always sore.

The heart breaks when new friends leave

They don’t mean to be cruel but that is life

They die, they move, you become a thing of the past

But shattered, you no longer have the strength to believe

The ashes of a life misspent

Of giving your all to the wrong ones

Of not fighting hard enough for yourself

Till even God waits for you to repent

You hide the scars of life behind the smile

The memories of could have been are your clothing

The dreams that died your party favors

As you go to hide again for a while

Maybe one day you will find

A heart to open up again

Till then simply must survive

And get past the daily grind

Alone against the ghosts of old

With prayers that you might be bold

A single thought you must own

No one is truly ever alone.

Always Dad. Though sometimes you don't have control over what the fates have in store for you. All you can do is hang on.

This is unbelievable. I don't have the words for what it does for me right now (it's nothing bad, so don't worry). I'm not very emotional most of the time, at least not on the outside, but... Maybe you get the picture if I say I sit here and have about every Joy Division lyric I once learnt by heart in my head. And when that happens something must have struck me as very intense. Thank you!

It is just something I wrote when I was feeling down. It happens and for me to deal with it I usually put those thoughts into words so I can examine them before they overwhelm me. Glad to be of help.
