Sticks and Stories - 2. Run, Run, Run...

I didn't mean to continue with the fairy tale stuff, but I couldn't help it. Really short story, but enjoy!

Fleeing through the castle halls, the cookie’s feet silently tapped the stone. The baker’s man should have known better than to leave the icing on the table. It was nothing for the gingerbread man to turn the piping bag towards the floor and squeeze the contents out. Hoping it was enough, he prayed as he leaped off the preparation table.

With white goop along his back, he knew he was leaving a trail. But this was it. His big chance to escape! He wasn’t going to be the king’s snack. Not even the prince’s chipped molars would have the chance to nibble on him.

The faint vibrations through the floor told him someone was coming. He rounded the corner, being careful not the press against the wall should become stuck. It was a man in a black hood. A torturer! The cookie imagined the horrors he would be subjected to if that were his captor. His chocolate candy eyes, plucked. The spice drop buttons, gnawed off. His… Oh, dear God, not his coiffed sprinkled hair!

But he remained undetected.

Until he turned and saw a rat speeding his way. Fuck!

The gingerbread man steeled himself. Three… two… one! He jumped and latched onto the beast’s thin whiskers with his crumbly fingers. An echoing squeak rang in his ears as he saddled the rat. It bucked wildly until the cookie kicked the furry body with his ankles. “Hya!”

Bounding, he smelled freedom. The gardens were nearby, which meant the drawbridge was close.

“Stop!” Called a man’s voice. “Stop that gingerbread man!”

Riding the high of his adventure, the cookie called back, “Run, run, run as quick as you think. You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Twink!"
