What brings us together - Part 1 - 3. Chapter 3

Sorry for the delay in posting this chapter. I've been away helping with a family problem, and had difficulty getting into the right headspace to check and post this chapter.
I hope you are all enjoying the festive season.

On Saturday morning they woke held together by love, each other’s arms and the sticky residue from the previous night. They each looked into the other’s eyes and mutually sighed.

“So it wasn’t a dream,” Cameron softly whispered, as if saying it any louder would make it a dream.

“No,” whispered Jordan, just as quietly. “If it was a dream we wouldn’t be stuck together like this. But, it was so much better than any dream I’ve ever had.”

They kissed gently.

“I suppose we should shower. We didn’t seem to get around to that last night.”

Jordan gently stroked Cameron’s cheek, “You are so handsome, So gorgeous.”

They kissed again, lovingly.

Cameron pulled back mere centimetres from Jordan’s lips. “You are so stunningly attractive and adorable.”

They kissed again, as lovers do.

Cameron pulled back slightly, “How do you usually spent your Saturdays?”

“You mean before I met this totally gorgeous man, I want to spend every Saturday with?”

“You only want to spend Saturdays with him?” Cameron ran his fingers over some ticklish spots he’d discovered on Jordan.

Jordan squirmed away, “Tease! No, I want to spend every day with you, but you only asked about Saturdays.”

“Touche.”

“And I’m sad to say my Saturdays were very mundane and domestic. It’s when I did my cleaning, laundry and shopping.”

“Laundry and shopping! That reminds me. I only brought a few days’ clothes with me. If I don’t do some laundry and buy some more clothes, I won’t have anything to wear.”

“Hmm, I could put doing the laundry off for a couple of days.”

Cameron glared at him, “Why?”

The grin that spread across Jordan’s face was a giveaway. “The idea of having you naked all day appeals to me.”

Cameron chuckled and tried to tickle Jordan again, “Didn’t know you like to perve, but I’ll be naked all day if you are too.”

“Even better.” He avoided Cameron’s fingers by pulled him into a long lip tingling kiss.

Cameron eventually pulled out of the kiss, “I’m sorry babe but I’ve got to use the bathroom for more than a shower.”

“Me too. I’ll join you.”

They stood next to each other as they emptied their bladders onto the bowl and then holding hands moved to the generous shower. Jordan started the rain shower and adjusted the temperature. When it was warm he pulled Cameron in under the water.

“I’ll wash your back and then you can do mine.” With a handful of shower gel he lathered Cameron’s back all the way down to his butt. He washed between the cheeks gently cleaning around the slightly puckering hole.

“Hmm nice Jords. Now turn around so I can do the same to you.”

“I was going to wash your front.”

“All in good time. Now turn around.” Jordan complied.

Cameron lathered Jordan’s back and used his fingers to carefully ensure that between his butt cheeks was properly cleaned.

“I could enjoy that for hours but turn around so we can clean off this stickiness.”

They each took a handful of shower gel and started washing the stickiness off the other’s chest and stomach. Together they lathered the other’s pecs and watched the foam spread. They tweaked nipples before moving lower and lovingly washing away any remaining stickiness, paying particular attention to the public area. It was no surprise that they were both hard. A hardness that begged for relief. Kissing under the rain shower and with the water cascading down over their naked bodies they kissed and mutually stimulated each other until exhausted. The rain shower washed away the evidence of their lovemaking.

Clean and dry after the shower they returned to the bedroom and still naked threw all their used clothing, towels and sheets into a hamper and headed for the laundry. When the washing machine started they moved to the kitchen for breakfast.

Jordan walked behind Cameron and wrapped his arms around him, enjoying the skin on skin contact. “I wasn’t kidding about spending the day naked with you Cam, but you’re right you need clothes for the next week. Do you have something to wear while we go shopping? If not, I suspect I have something you could wear.”

“We’re similar size so I’m sure I’ll fit into what you’ve got.”

The response was a chuckle and a gentle slap on Cameron’s naked butt. “Naughty but nice.”

Still enjoying being naked together, they prepared and ate breakfast. After eating they dressed, transferred the clothes from the washing machine to the line and went shopping.

They dropped the bags of groceries on the kitchen bench and the bags of work and casual clothes on their bed.

Cameron put his arm around Jordan and looked at the bed. “This will get me though the week at work, but I still have to bring all my stuff down from Brisbane, including my car.”

“Do you have a relocation payment or time allowance?”

“I’m not sure, it’s probably somewhere in my contract.”

“Jees, I wish you’d shown that to me before you signed it.”

“I hardly knew you when I signed it. Anyway, I’m thinking of flying to Brisbane on Friday night, packing my car with my stuff and driving back on Sunday.”

“Better idea. We fly to Brisbane on Friday night, I meet your parents, blah blah blah, we pack your car, box up the rest, leave Sunday afternoon and drive back. We both take Monday off work and your parents can send on the stuff we boxed up.”

“We?”

“Yes. You should have someone to share the driving. I’m not happy having you do that drive by yourself. Besides I’d like to meet your parents.”

Cameron hadn’t thought of someone sharing the driving, but the idea of Jordan going to Brisbane with him and sharing the driving made him feel loved and cared for.

“But taking Monday off work? Are you suggesting that after just a week with them, I simply take a day off? And what about you?”

“You better show me your contract, but the way you’ve described this firm, I suspect they’ll agree. As for me, Dad’s more concerned about how productive I am than how many days I spend in the office. Taking Monday off will be fine, especially after he meets you.”

Jordan’s parents lived in Mosman. Their house overlooked Taylors Bay and beyond the light on Bradleys Head the blue waters of Sydney Harbour. A harbour filled on Sunday with leisure craft, yachts in full sail racing for club honours and the regular green and yellow Manly ferries asserting their right of way. After parking they walked down the drive to the back of the house to enter the outside entertainment area, where Jordan’s mother lay in wait for them.

She pulled Jordan into a hug. “Jordan, it’s lovely to see you again. I’m thrilled that you are able to be here.” Jordan couldn’t remember missing one of his mother’s “family events” but before he could comment she moved towards Cameron and pulled him into a similar hug.

“You must be Jordan’s friend, Cameron. Any friend of Jordan’s is a friend of our family. Welcome to our home.”

She was about to question Cameron further when Jordan’s sister, Jessica, arrived, “Ah there you are. I was worried I’d missed you arriving.” She grabbed Cameron’s hand firmly, “Come on Cameron. I’ll introduce you to everyone.”

Cameron looked at Jordan who smiled and nodded. His concern evaporated with that reassuring smile. Acknowledging, he smiled back and let himself be led off.

Jordan’s mother watched them walk away, her face an odd mixture of frustration and joy. “There’ll be time later to talk to Cameron. Jordan dear, that look between you two. Are you dating?”

“Yes mum, we’re dating. He’s staying with me in the house.”

Surprise spread across her face. “I didn’t know he was staying with you. You haven’t done that since . . .”

Jordan interrupted her, “Mum. We’re serious about each other.”

“Good. I love you Jordan and I love seeing you like this. We’ve all been worried. I just hope it turns out better than . . . better for both of you.”

Jordan wrapped his arms around her in a warm hug, “I’m sure it will. Love you mum and thank you.”

They broke the hug. She stepped back, looked up into his eyes and gently tapped his cheek. “You better go and rescue Cameron. I need to check on the food.”

After chatting with a couple of cousins who wanted to talk, Jordan poured two glasses of white wine and went looking for Cameron, who was still with Jessica. When he found them he handed one glass to Cameron. As Cameron took the glass Jordan’s hand gently caressed the back of the hand holding the glass. It was so loving and so natural that they both accepted it as normal and hardly noticed. Jessica did notice and immediately understood.

Jordan was about to take a drink from his own glass when Jessica stopped him.

“What about one for your sister. I’ve introduced Cam to everyone.”

“Yes, Jess has been looking after me.”

Jordan raised an eyebrow. These two were getting on better than he expected. He offered his glass to Jessica, who accepted it smiling.

“I’ll get myself another glass.”

“We could share mine.” Cameron offered. Their eyes sparkled at each other.

“That’s so tempting, but I’ll only be a minute.”

The moment Jordan left, Jessica said, “Cam, I can see all the love between you two. Please promise me that you will take care of my brother.”

“Jess, I don’t have to promise, I know I will. I love him so much.”

“That’s all I need to know.” She leaned across and kissed Cameron on the cheek just as Jordan returned accompanied by Jessica’s husband.

“If you don’t mind Cameron, I’d like my wife back.” He was enjoying doing this. “Lunch is nearly ready, and while I can manage feeding our eldest, I haven’t mastered breast feeding our youngest.”

Jessica faux punched his shoulder, “And don’t you dare try. I know how sensitive your nipples are and what it does to you so they’re for me to play with.” Then to Jordan and Cameron, “Sorry guys but duty calls.”

Jordan stopped them leaving. “You’re still breast feeding, so you’re not drinking. Why did you want my wine?”

‘I didn’t want the wine. I wanted to get rid of you while I had a word to Cam.” She handed the untasted glass of wine to her husband, who smiled happily at Cameron. “Welcome to the family. You’ll get used to us”. They walked off.

Jordan thoughtfully watched them walk towards the house before he turned to Cameron.

“What did she say to you while I wasn’t here.”

“Just that she saw we loved each other and then asked me to take care of you. Was that significant?”

Jordan paused before answering. “Nothing to worry about. I’m the youngest in my generation of siblings and cousins and they all still tend to think of me as a kid who needs looking after.”

That wasn’t the whole truth.

Cameron felt that it meant more than that, but for the moment shrugged off any concerns he had.

These extended family gatherings were common enough for all of Jordan’s cousins to know each other almost as much as siblings. Jordan and Cameron wandered around to chat with various cousins, who quickly understood that Cameron was more than “a friend”. Despite Jordan’s warning, Cameron felt very comfortable in this setting.

When the food was ready, they were called to fill their plates and sit and eat around the large communal table situated in the middle of the outside entertainment area.

Jordan’s mom was ensuring everyone had a plate and some food. As she handed Cameron a plate he commented. “This house is amazing. The gently sloping yard giving that view of the harbour across the bay is spectacular. I’ve been admiring the outside of the house and would love to see through the inside if that’s OK.”

Jordan added, “Cameron has a professional interest. He’s an architect.”

“Excellent. Cameron, I’m sure I can show you though our home, but first you boys need to have something to eat.”

There was nothing to complain about the food, and the interaction while eating fluctuated between loud whole of table conversations and quieter discussions between two or three people close together.

When they had finished eating and the clearing up was underway, Jordan’s mum swooped and taking Cameron by the arm, told him, “Come on my boy. I’ll show you through our house and be warned I have some questions I want to ask you.”

Cameron cast a worried look to Jordan, who instinctively moved towards Cameron only to be stopped by his father. “Don’t panic. She likes him and is happy for you. The questions she has for him are likely to cost me at least a hundred thousand.”

Jordan watched Cameron disappear before looking questioningly at his father.

“Yes, she very much likes him. Me too. I understand why you’re serious and as far as I can tell, he’s serious about you as well. She wants to ask his advice about some renovations.”

“Really?” He burst out laughing when his father nodded. Then they both laughed.

“So, you’re living together?”

Happily, “Yes. We are.”

“When is he moving his things down from Brisbane?”

Jordan smiled. His father was on his wavelength, “We’re doing it next weekend. He wants to bring his car down as well. So, we’re flying up, packing his stuff and driving back with what he needs. The rest can be sent down. I’ll need to take Monday off.”

“As far as I’m concerned, for this, take as much time as you need. Do Cameron’s parents know?”

“Not yet. He plans to tell them when he calls about us collecting his stuff. Probably tonight.”

“Good.” He patted Jordan on the back. “They should be happy with you. Another drink while Cameron is with your mother?”

“Sounds good Dad.”

Driving back, Jordan was desperate to know what happened between his mother and Cameron and Cameron’s opening comment was not what he expected.

“Your mother’s nice. I like her. Why were you so concerned?”

“You should ask my friends who refuse to attend another one of her ‘informal gatherings’.”

“Oh, she has form then.”

“In dissecting my friends, yes. But I should have had more faith in you. Anyway, what did you two talk about when I wasn’t there?”

“You, but mainly the house.”

“Fuck the house. Sorry I probably shouldn’t say that to an architect. What did she say about me?”

“Just how much she loves you and how happy you were today and . . . . how she can see we love each other.”

Jordan was ecstatic. Cameron was not only accepted but so was their love for each other. That had only happened once before.

“Thanks. I love you so much.” He wanted to kiss Cameron but was concentrating on driving so he reached over and instead stroked Cameron’s thigh. “What did you suggest about the house. Demolish and rebuild?”

Cameron laughed. “Does that mean you don’t like the house?”

“No. Not at all. I spent my adolescence living there and at grampa’s. There’s a lot there that I like but it lacks the . . .I don’t know, the integrity of grampa’s house. Previous owners and mum have made some ad hoc changes to the house. Some of those look like the remains of a pig’s breakfast.”

Cameron roared laughing. “You are so right and I know the ones you’re talking about. No, the basic house design is excellent. It has good bones. I pulled her back to some simple updating that will make it more livable, like the kitchen, along with opening the back up to the outside entertainment area and that spectacular view. It should cost less as well. I’ll draw up some rough designs.”

“You got mum to change her mind on what she wanted. You really do have superpowers. And cheaper! Dad will love you even more.”

While they were eating a light meal Jordan read Cameron’s contract. “You can easily take Monday to bring your car down. In fact your contract entitles you to additional days and a contribution to your relocation costs.”

“Cool! That’s more generous than I expected. Now we call my parents.”

With the phone on speaker, they listened to it ringing. Then “Hello dear. How are you?”

“Hi mum. I’m good. Can you put the phone on speaker so dad can hear.”

A moment later, “Hi Cameron. Did you lease the place you told us about? The one with the harbour view.”

“That’s one reason I’m calling. There was a problem. . . .Well, no not a problem really. Anyway, I’m not in the apartment. . . . I’m living with a friend. . . . Well, not really a friend, more like a boyfriend.” Jordan liked that and beamed.

“Isn’t this a bit sudden, Dear.” Voiced a concerned mum.

“How long have you known this man, Cameron. Have you thought this through?” From an equally concerned and more rational dad.

“Yes dear, who is he?”

“Does he have a good job?”

“Are you sure you’re happy with him?”

“You said you’re living with him. What’s his apartment like?”

As this continued, Jordan and Cameron were enjoying it but knew that they had to stop the questions.

“Mum, Dad, Jordan’s with me now. I’m happier than I’ve ever been. He’s the most amazing man I’ve ever met.” Jordan gave Cameron a kiss which could be heard over the phone.

“Hi, I’m Jordan and I love your son and want to be with him for the rest of my life.” Cameron smiled happily and gave Jordan a hug and another kiss, before returning to the phone call.

“Jordan’s a solicitor and we’re living in his house, which Dad is a beautifully maintained 1930’s Californian Bungalow.”

“Wow! Now that I want to see.”

“You and your houses! Sometimes I wonder why I married an architect. Jordan, when are we going to meet you?”

Cameron was used to his mother’s complaints about her husband and sons talking houses. He quietly chuckled.

“We’re flying up on Friday night so you’ll meet Jordan. We’ll drive back on Sunday, and Dad, I’ll send you some photos of the house.”

“I’ll make sure your room is ready for you Dear. You are staying with us, aren’t you?”

A quick glance to a nodding Jordan. “Yes Mum, we’re staying with you.”

Cameron’s Dad added, “Good. Send me the flight details and I’ll . . . no, we’ll meet you at the airport.”

Jordan's father, mother and sister have shown what appears to be, at least superficially, an overprotective attitude towards Jordan's new relationship. Admittedly, Jordan and Cameron have already professed love and a "forever" commitment to this relationship, which in of itself may have initially been a concern for all three, as it was for Cameron's parents, but I am certain there is something as yet unknown to Cameron, which is prompting this overprotective attitude. I believe Cameron is at least aware there is something more to it too as evidenced by this exchange with Jordan:

“Just that she saw we loved each other and then asked me to take care of you. Was that significant?”

Jordan paused before answering. “Nothing to worry about. I’m the youngest in my generation of siblings and cousins and they all still tend to think of me as a kid who needs looking after.”

That wasn’t the whole truth.

Cameron felt that it meant more than that, but for the moment shrugged off any concerns he had."

I am wondering if a previous relationship break-up led to Jordan having some type of breakdown, perhaps one which required his hospitalisation and/or a period of therapy and/or a protective restraining order.

I sometimes think I notice the oddest of events in a story, and this one was no exception:

"Still enjoying being naked together, they prepared and ate breakfast. After eating they dressed, transferred the clothes from the washing machine to the line and went shopping."

The text in bold pleased me no end @Paladin. I have noticed in stories written by American and European authors that if doing laundry forms part of the plot (and you may be surprised by the number of occasions in which it does), the clothes are always transferred from the washing machine to the dryer, even in climates where drying the clothes would be possible. I know it is only a story, but I assume this reflects behaviour in the authors' homeland, behaviour which at a bare minimum irritates me because of its potential damage to the environment i.e. using electricity unnecessarily.

Another well-crafted chapter @Paladin. I particularly loved the fact Jordan's parents' home in Mosman is an architectural travesty, or as Jordan so poetically described it a "pig's breakfast", thereby proving that money does not necessarily buy taste.
