Jordan and Cody - 10. Chapter 10

I see the same house that I saw last time I dreamt. I walk towards it. Dad is at his computer on Facebook. He is on my timeline looking at all my photos. A stray tear flows down his face. He looks terrible. He then goes to the white pages website. He types in my Mums name and town. He finds the address and writes it down along with the phone number. My dream dissolves and it leads into another pointless dream…

**********************************************************************************

It’s been two weeks since Jordan and I have been back to school, I have a little bit of hair back. We got back to school and were swamped with hugs from Jane and Sarah, I had been texting them over the course of our absence. Finally we set back into our routine of schoolwork. After we got back from Dunedin and Mum had gone home Aaron had come up to see Jordan and I, he was happy that I was okay and he was glad to see Jordan after a few weeks. We took him around Queenstown. He hadn't been there since they had a gravel road around the Devils Staircase. We took him to Kingston on his last weekend there and he just about vomited riving round the staircase. Eventually he went home.

Jordan is driving the boat to school and I’m lying on the couch behind him. We got to school, moored and went inside. We meet up with Sarah and Jane by our next class.

We chat about nothing much just what’s going on everywhere. Isaac has been riding to school with Ruby so he can meet up with his friends earlier. We all go into the math’s class that has just been unlocked and take our seats at our usual five seated table. Nobody sits with us because they know about Jordan and me. It kinda annoys me but it keeps the dickheads away. The class starts and the teacher drowns on about Linear Graphs and Equations. I hate algebra, any way, shape or form. Jordan is good at it so he helps our small group. The teacher finally finishes explaining and he hands out work sheets for us to do. There is a knocking at the door and a lost looking boy comes in. At first I don't recognise him as he had his head down, but then when the teacher directs him to sit with us I realise. David. My former best friend. I am panicking on the inside, Jordan hasn't caught on yet. He lifts his head up and stares at me, eyes wide. Jordan must have just realised who he is and stiffens up immediately. He grabs my hand under the table. Sarah and Jane are looking at us quizzically. They don't know who he is. Sarah looks at David and smiles.

“And you are……?” She said.

“David and you?” He said. He's much politer than I remember.

“I’m Sarah this is Jane, Jordan and Cody!” She said pointing at all of us.

“Yea, I know.” He said quietly.

“Huh?” She said.

I shook my head violently and mouthed ‘I’ll tell you later’.

She looked again and went back to her work. I tried to do my work but I could feel David’s eyes on me. Jordan was also trying to do his work but he couldn’t, not with David here. Jane tried to start a conversation with David but he just replied with yes or no answers.

I was trying to concentrate but I couldn't so I got my iPod out and put some music on. Jordan borrowed one of my earphones and we got at least half of the sheet done by the end of the period. We had one more period till interval. Our group had pretty much all the same classes so we (excluding David) walked off to our next class, Japanese. Thankfully David wasn't in that class so we were free to talk about him. Sasaki Sensei (Mrs. Sasaki) gave us some sheets to do and we were allowed to talk while we did them.

“So what’s up with you and David?” Jane asked pointedly.

“Um, well… He was my best friend for ages until earlier this year. He found out about me and Jordan and he outed us to the whole school.” I said.

“What a complete asshole! He’s not sitting with us again!” Sarah said which was completely out of character for her as she was the quiet one.

I shrugged my shoulders and went back to my sheet. I finished the sheet first and handed it back to the teacher. She checked it over and I got full marks. I sat back down till the period was over giving help to people who struggled with it.

We left the class and went to our usual spot by the lake and sat on the benches. We joked around and ate our food, I saw David on the bench fifty meters away. I decided to try and mend bridges.

“I’ll be back soon guys.” I said.

Jordan looked at where David was sitting. “Do you want me to come?”

“Nah you stay here and I’ll call if you need help.”

He nodded and I walked towards David. I sat beside him and sighed. He didn't look up.

“David.” I said.

“What do you want?” He asked quietly.

“How have you been?” I asked.

“Fine, just fine. No thanks to you.”

“Huh? What are you going on about?” I asked truly confused.

“When you left everyone turned on me. I was hated on all the time. I couldn't take it. I lost you and all my other friends.” He said quietly.

“Well you haven't lost me completely. I’m still here if you want me.” I said.

He looked at me. “Really? Coz what I did was pretty shitty and all.”

“Just apologise and we’re all good.” I said shrugging.

“I’m so sorry Cody! You were the greatest friend anyone could ask for and I screwed you over! How could you forgive me after that?!”

“I don’t hold grudges.” I said simply.

“Well then I’m extremely sorry for what I did, for what it’s worth I’m glad you’re with Jordan.” He said sincerely.

“Thanks, and I am too. Now come meet everyone properly!”

I walked him over to everyone and re-introduced him.

“Everyone this is David, he is my second best friend.” I said smiling. Everyone looked shocked. Jane was the first to speak up.

“I don’t like you. You might be able to redeem yourself to Cody quickly but not me.” She said giving him a cold glare.

“Me neither.” Sarah said.

“Or me.” Jordan said, they all glared and he smiled weakly.

“I’ll try my best.”

“You better.” Jordan grumbled.

I rolled my eyes and waited for the bell to ring. We got through the day and David turned out to be in only three of our classes (Math, PE and English). We said goodbye to David and walked to the wharf. Isaac was waiting for us.

“Hey guys!” He said smiling.

“Hey!” We said back.

We got in and I got us home. It started getting cold when we got back. I looked at the head of the lake and saw ominous looking clouds. We went inside and crashed on the couches. I turned on the TV and switched it to the movie channel. We settled to watch The Hobbit (Some of which is filmed in the Queenstown lakes area). About halfway through the movie Ruby walked in and said hello. We had dinner and went to our respective areas, Jordan and I went to our room to do homework. We had some science and math to catch up on so we got started. I did the science stuff because it was easy and Jordan did the math because it was easy for him, we then copied the answers from each other. We stripped and got in bed. Jordan was wearing tight blue briefs with white stitching and I was wearing light blue boxer briefs with the brand around the rim. I lay beside Jordan and kissed him, it started getting heated but Jordan pulled away and flicked me.

“School tomorrow! No sex tonight!” He said poking his tongue out.

“It was only kissing.” I whined. “Not sex.”

He rolled his eyes. “Yea right, I know you.”

“So… You would’ve liked it.”

“Yea but school tomorrow.”

“Okay.” I said knowing I wasn't going to win.

We said goodnight and we fell asleep.

I was in Dads house. He was sorting out flights to Invercargill. He booked two adults and one child. He printed the tickets off and took them to his wife.

“We’re going on Saturday.” He said.

“Okay.” She said smiling.

Dad went back to his room and put the tickets on the shelf and went back to the lounge.

I woke with a start. It was only a dream but it felt real! I texted mum and told her to come up this weekend. I went back to sleep in Jordan’s arms.
