Eternal Light - 1. Chapter 1

Heart pounding, shallow breaths

I think of you from deep within

Legs hurt, feet numb

I ran toward the Light

The more I ran

The farther It gets

I stumbled forward

And broke my nose

Blood gushing, teary-eyed

Got on my feet and started again

Wobbly steps, blurred vision

Like a sentient being, the Light beckoned

Memories of you came

Our happy days together

And the day the Light first arrived

You were taken in Its bosom

Screaming loved ones, crying children

I ran away like a coward

Wet forehead, body cringing

I hid myself from the Light

When the anguish outside ended

Very few were left

Our world’s darkest day

Was flooded with blinding light

Missing you, blaming myself

My days were dull and lifeless

Broken soul, shattered dreams

I’m slowly withering away

The Light came back

My heart rejoiced

A tiny hope sprung

I just might get you back

Fear loomed, optimism ebbing

The Light circled me now

Acting slow, consciousness fading

I reached out with my hand

Light licked my hand

It felt warm but didn’t hurt

The Light seemed to open up

The insides more magnificent

Things moving, voices called

I strained my eyes and ears

Familiar face, missed voice

I stepped inside the Light

It took time for my eyes to adjust

The brilliance was overwhelming

With bated breath, I looked around

It was beautiful beyond description

Another world, different time

In the distance I saw you

Welcoming arms, wide smile

You were waiting for me

We embraced each other tight

Your kiss sated my longing

Happy to be finally by your side

Our love bound by Eternal Light

With some blunt, almost funny lines inside this was still a tender and sensitive poem. Really beautifuly written Jian.

A second change in a perfect world. How that beckons. Because often love fails or we fail. Maybe the fondest of dreams. A very good poem and bittersweet insights.

This poem offers us quite a journey, from frightening Light to saving Light, from loss and anguish to happy reunion!

I feel like there are many ways to interpret this, though none really wins over the others. I guess I can re-read it each time and find new meanings in it :)

Thanks for sharing this with us, Jian. This binding Eternal Light will be a beacon of hope in my memory.
