Those Left Behind

   (4 reviews)

Ludo has a nice life. A lovely wife and son, an attractive modern house, and a good job, idyllic really. But his wife is restless and spends too much time at work; Ludo finds himself getting too close to Arthur, the father of one of his son’s friends. Then his wife’s job takes a sinister turn, casting everything else into the shade.

Though there are ‘who-dunnit’ or ‘why-dunnit’ aspects, the story is narrated largely from Ludo’s point of view, with short sections of dialogue between the police involved to provide context.

The story is quite slow burn at first; the more sinister elements of the plot don’t become apparent until chapter eight.

For regular readers of my stories, Ludo’s home town is some 30 or 40 miles South-East of Parborough.

Another delicious tale form @Robert Hugill

Characters that draw you in, even the annoying ones, and make you want to really know them.

A story that shows in some ways the best and worst of people.  How easy it is to just slip into a life and go along knowing you are missing something but not doing anything about it, when BLAM!

What makes a group of people a family.  What compels some to want more than they need?  Why is it so hard to admit what you truly want.  Find the answers to these questions and many more within this story.

Robert Hugill can craft a story!  In this one, we find a man who has been betrayed by his wife and is able to rise from the challenges and maintain a positive environment with his son while at the same time forging a new relationship with a widowed friend and his son.  Together, they form a wonderful family unit and support each other through the challenges caused by the betrayal of the wife.  It is a remarkable story of growth, redemption, and allowing truth to self to finally shine through.

It is hard to believe that there are now 7 @Robert Hugill stories on GA. This is an excellent addition.  As always, there is great storytelling, interesting characters whose lives are affected by changes outside of themselves.  The written English is exquisite.

Those who are already fans will be v content. For anyone who has yet to enter this writer’s world,  now is your chance to start.

A great read.
