Somewhere in the year 3,000 AD, a catastrophe of unimagined proportions tore the fabric of subspace, making space travel impossible. Relativistic speed was not a possibility given the fact that all thirteen off-world colonies where so very far away from Earth and each other. Most countries in Obsidian reverted to a society system close to Earth's dark middle ages, where Religion and Politics work together.
