I Am Number Four

So I mentioned I am Number Four series of books by Pittacus Lore last Friday in my book blog.  They did manage to make one movie of the series.  It was a decent adventure with some nice eyecandy.  Special effects were good and the movie was decent.

Hollyweird Articulated

I used to have a love of movies.  I have over 1500 DVDs/Blu-Rays/4K disks in my collection.  I could be counted on to buy multiple movies a month. 2022 I bought 5 total new movies.  I upgraded a handful of older things. This fellow, a published author, has articulated the problem rather nicely.   As a gay guy, I rather prefer men.  And Hollyweird can't even fake having those any more. It's a growing problem in books too, especially since 2015.  I was rereading

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

I figured I'd wrap up the current 3 movie timeline.  (For the record, the money-losing disaster that was the start of the Hollywood crap show of the last few years "Ghostbusters 2016" is not part of canon at idiot director Paul Fool's insistence) This movie is kind of an apology from Sony for the above mentioned crap show.  It has plenty of little fan thank yous.  And the main plotline is actually a pretty touching tribute.  Also of interesting note, they forced Bill Murray to appear i

Ghostbusters II

Ghostbusters II was not quite as good as Ghostbusters, but it was still an enjoyable movie.  Well worth watching nonetheless.  Funny. I love the ghost train and ghost titanic.

Ghostbusters

Truly a comedy/horror classic.  I, of course, have the 4k movie.  Definitely worth the entertainment factor.

Getting some stuff done

I've had a busy little day today. I got a bunch of stuff done around the house. I went to see "I Am Legend". It was good, but weird. Interesting story concept at least.   I also got some time in with Mass Effect today. I'm looking to get more done with that tomorrow.   I did manage to focus a bit on Gay Authors today. I worked on the letter and poll I'm setting up for the end of the year.   Right now, I'm working on installing a major new program that is a beta. It is looking like i

Force of Nature - A "B" Action Movie

I'll have to admit I picked this movie up on a whim. Mel Gibson action movies are usually entertaining.  And Emile Hirsch has had an interesting career. It was a bad movie, if you like brain-off B flicks.  I'll have to admit this groaner though... saw Mel Gibson and my immediate comment was "He's getting too old for this shit". If you see it somewhere on a streaming service and want to kill some time, there are worse ways to do it.  I wouldn't buy it.

Eragon

I mentioned the Eragon books a few weeks ago.  They did make a movie out of the book.  I liked the movie enough, but it has some weaknesses.  The director's leather fetish for the young male actors was not one of them.   This is worth seeing if you enjoy fantasy, dragons etc.  The effects were done well and Jeremy Irons always adds some gravitas to what he shows up in. And the bad guy is played by John Malcovitch.  Check it out.

Dune Movie 2021

Please no one tell @Cia, but I still have not read Frank Herbert's Dune.  Though I have seen 2021 Dune movie starring Timothée Chalamet. I enjoyed the visuals a lot in this movie.  It can been a bit slow at times, but it was nice to disconnect and just enjoy it.  They made one hell of a big set up... I hope all the changes at going on a Discovery/Warner Bros doesn't ruin a sequel for this.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

As I mentioned in my book blog a couple weeks ago, I have been a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia for a long time.  I've always been a bit disappointed that they didn't do all the books as movies, but they also seem to run out of steam in the process.  (this series included).  That said, I think they did a good job with 3 movies they did in this series.  The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was the best of the 3 though, I think. If you haven't watched it and you like fantasy, this was well d

Christmas Shopping and Star Dust

Well, it is the end of another day and time for a little stream of conciousness. I have officially completed my Christmas shopping. I hate Christmas shopping for my family because, frankly, if someone in my family wants something, they go get it. But, as I said, I'm done. I now just need to spend the evening tomorrow wrapping everything. I will also spend some time in the kitchen cooking up some gifts for some friends at work.   Stardust (and the Simpsons Movie) hit DVD today. If you hav

Beautiful Thing

So this week, I wanted to break into my extensive collection of gay movies.  This is a good movie.  The British accent can be a bit much at times if you are in the USA.  It sounds sexy though, even if you can't figure out what the hell they are saying.  That really is only a few scenes.  It is a good movie.  Well worth having in the collection.   What are you waiting for?  Go get it

Batman Begins

So, I really, really enjoyed this movie.  It had a more grounded comic book movie approach than the over-the-top-campy the George Clooney and Val Kilmer Batman movies went.  And of course, this set up The Dark Knight, one of the best comic book movies ever.  Which, unfortunately was folllowed by the worse Batman movie of all,  The Dark Knight Falls.  The batman movie that is 2.5 hours long with about 5 minutes of Batman.  Ugh.  Stupid. But knowing the end of the trilogy does not stop the gr

Batman Begins

Of all the times Batman has been in movie form, the first two movies in Chris Nolan's reboot top them.  Batman Begins gives the gritty, more realistic and most important of all, less campy version of Batman.  This movie hit all the right notes and was only really topped by it immediate sequel, the Dark Knight.  (And then pissed away in that god-awful mess called the Dark Knight Rises.  I swear Nolan purposely trashed that movie so that no one would ask him to make another)   Anyway, Ba

Baby Driver

So, while I was laid up this weekend, I finally had some time where I could do pretty much nothing but catch up on the very large pile of movies I have sitting here.  Well, I could have caught up on the very large pile of books or games or reading lists or nevermind.  I watched movies.  Baby Driver was one of them.   Now, I love action movies.  Check.  This has action. I'm rather fond of any movie with a Twink-like character in it.  Check. Check.  Kevin Spacey almost always p

American Assassin

I really enjoyed this movie.  It was good to see Micheal Keaton back in the game.  I'll admit that I also like staring at Dylan O'Brien.  I've heard really good things about the books as well.  There is a series of them.  This is one of those rare cases where I've seen the movie before reading the books.   I think this might be a new pattern for me, actually.  By watching the movie before reading the book, I can enjoy the movie for what it is and then read the book and enjoy that too.

Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker

So, I mentioned the book for this in the blog last Friday, so I thought I'd mention this movie.  The release kind of sucks as for some stupid reason, they haven't released a widescreen dvd or a Blu-Ray.  It is a cute little action movie with a lot of familiar British faces.  It's a quick romp with nice eyecandy.  There are worse things out there.

2010: The Year We Made Contact

This is an oldie but goodie.  The visuals in this movie are stunning, especially when you consider it came out in 1984.  It has long fueled my thoughts of space and space exploration.  It is also a much tighter story, unlike the very plodding 2001.  Sci-Fi movies suffered from long, slow scenes to soaring music in the 1965- 1980 timeset.  You can see this in the first Alien movie, the first Star Trek Movie (The Motion Picture), and to a lesser extent Star Wars.   I think Star Wars was the one to

2 Guns

This was a nice little action movie.  And I generally enjoy any movie Denzel Washington shows up in.  If you haven't you seen it, and you like action movies, this is worth checking out.
