Tuesdays with Morrie

I'll first say, Tuesdays with Morrie is a great book, but not one suitable for reading in public.

So the book was recommended by my creative writing teacher. At that time, it seemed like a requirement while not being one, thus I didn't read it at that time.

The other day, I bought it and decided to read it after all. By this time, it's not longer a requirement and definitely a book that I really want to read.

I started reading on the plane back to BJ. I knew from the start that this book was going to bring tears, because when I started reading literally the first word, (well, I must admit I kind of knew what the book is about), my eyes were filled with tears.

And during the course of the flight, I constantly need to compose myself, almost every other paragraph, in order to stop tearing up because I don't have enough tissues with me. And at certain places, I literally would blow out several breaths. Despite the composing and stuff, I still constant wipe my eyes. I must seem really weird on the plane.

And while waiting to retrieve my luggage, I stood there reading again, wanting to finish the book. There was a girl standing next to me who was also waiting for her luggage and I noticed she kept looking at me. It must have been that I was crying so openly.

The last three chapters was read in privacy of the dorm. And the last three was like the saddest part of the whole book, but this time, I could cry as much as I wanted because roommates weren't in. And with the crying, I feel almost relieved.

I think the book moves me, partly because I'm still at college and it's about college professors. But anyway, I think everyone would get something out of it.

And if not wanting to embarrass yourself in public, I'd recommend to read while you're alone.

It is an excellent book. I still have a close friendship with a professor from school (he's retired now). We email almost daily. Meet up too infrequently for lunch and talk. Mostly because of my schedule.

I would recommend "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by the same author as well.

Im sorry, but I disliked the book a great deal. To make it short, I'm just going to say that it came off very lecture-like and pretentious. Don't get me wrong, I do have respect for Morrie and the Author, but the book was like Life 101 with the dialogue written like it was preaching to readers.

I do agree with a lot of values he "taught" but I greatly disliked the manner in which he presented it. I don't want to make this so harsh but just because the guy was dying automatically made him think he was a guru on life and all its secrets?

I think that this book is AMAZING. It's everything you need to know about what's actually important in life and I think you only get out of it what you put into it. I'm glad you finally chose to read it and that it moved you so much. I've also read The Five People You Meet in Heaven and For One More Day, and they all have a great message in them. Enjoy!

Well, I guess loving it or hating it are just personal thoughts. biggrin.gif

Yay! For One More Day is awesome, you'll enjoy it. It really changed the relationship I had with my mom. Mitch Albom is one of my favorite authors.
