Musk perceives the gestalt and thus his weltanschauung...although it often appears to be a bit self-serving.

Part of human nature.  the "what's in it for me?" Even today's biggest philanthropist, Bill Gates, is trying to make up to the whole world for foisting Internet Explorer on us...
