Pocketbook Activism

Here's an Idea:

A lot of people don't know how many GLBT people there really are. Many of our brothers and sisters are shamed or intimidated into staying in the closet. Here's something that you can do without actually coming out and still make a serious statement.

For every $1 bill you get, give ole George a stash and eyebrows. :lmao:

After we get a few zillion of these out there and everybody has seen them, we let it be know that these are GAYBUCKS.

My first gay pride parada was in 1993, San Francisco. It still went the old way from City Hall to Moscone Center instead of from Moscone to City Hall. The only restaurant in Moscone Center that was still open at the time was a Carls Jr. Not exactly the pro-gayest of companies.

So what did people do? At the doors were groups of guys and gals who had pink triangle stamps...and they were stamping a pink triangle on everyone's money as they walked in the door...a sign to Carl's Jr. how much the gay community contributed to their business that day...

Well, I've heard of this idea before and like it. Even just taking a pink marker and drawing a triangle on the bills. It's an easy way of taking action that could serve to make people more aware.

Isn't defacing money a federal crime?

So is removing the labels from mattresses.

Money is actually written on by banks and vendors all the time. Those new, goofy looking twenties- if you've got a brand new crisp one and hand it to a teller or clerk, the first thing they'll do with it is authenticate it with a special marker.

As the content and nature of the marks that I suggest are political in nature and represent a protest, they are protected free speech.
