whatever...
I usually try and avoid that retort, but at this point, I'm speechless. Quick rant about work and then we'll move on kay? So at work we're having some promotion for the month of May where if you spend $25 on QUALIFYING PRODUCTS (see list that is rather specific) you'll earn two free movie tickets to the upcoming Pirates of the Carribean III. Sounds simple enough right? In fact, what a deal really, cause, out here at least, it's $10 a ticket, so this way you get the tickets AND all the products you buy. Right on, right?
So tonight this family came in... went through another girl's line, she gave them the 'rather specific list', and then, they went shopping again and came through my line hoping to have accumulated enough purchases to earn said movie tickets. Also, we give them a running total of how much they have accumulated toward said movie tickets on every receipt so they knew how much more they had to spend to earn said tickets. So I ring their second purchase of the evening, and yes their total grew, but not to the $25 needed, and being the nice person that I am, and knowing what they are trying to do, I tell them they still have to purchase $3 more to earn their tickets.
They grumble, and then send their teenage son through once more with something else, hoping to get to the $25 limit. Well, their accumulated total didn't change. Now, just for a minute, let all of us logical thinkers ponder why that might be, shall we? Ahh yes, likely cause the item he was purchasing IS NOT ONE OF THE QUALIFYING ITEMS!!!
I pull out 'rather specific list', and point out that this item is NOT ON THE LIST and even offer to return it for them so they can purchase the correct products. So I get another manager out there to help him and do the refund since I have a line of people waiting to get the f**K out of the grocery store at 9 p.m. So the guy is pissed, and while she is helping him return the item, I try to tell her that he bought two of them, once when they came through my line, and then once again when they sent the teenage son through, so maybe he'd like to return both.
Apparently he didn't appreciate that, and started screaming at me that it was my fault cause I didn't tell him he wasn't buying the correct products (note rather specific list in their hand) TOTAL SIDE NOTE HERE... since when do I censor people's purchases? If the guy wants to buy water along with his other 'qualifying items', who am I to refuse him that right? Anyway, after being yelled at, and trying to explain, and then the other manager trying to explain, we both gave up while he's screaming about our company going bankrupt (as if that's gonna happen) and how he paid for the stuff, we both just stopped trying to help the poor bastard.
... WHATEVER!
Deep breath... moving on.
So, in WAY BETTER NEWS, Tony is here!! Just pulled up out front in fact, home for the summer!!!
In EVEN WAY BETTER NEWS, Rich got the job!!! Let me back up and tell that story as well. He randomly got a call one day on his cell phone while he was supposed to be at work, but wasn't, cause he had left an hour early so I could take him to pick his car up from the shop where it was being serviced before it closed at 5 p.m. It's some guy calling to ask him to come in for an interview, that apparently he had submitted a resume to over two weeks prior and then promptly forgot about. So he happily agrees, cause he hates his job that he has now, is WAY underpaid, and they are offering WAY more. He goes in for the interview, comes out of it actually feeling really confident and pleased, which for Rich, is HUGE, and then is asked to come back for a second interview the next week to 'prove himself and his skills' which of course was no problem cause Rich has mad skills (see my website )
So they tell him that they will let him know, that they want someone to start on the following Monday if possible. So he is eagerly waiting all weekend and hears... nothing All day Monday, nothing. So I convince him to call and ask, cause he really wants this job. He calls and they say something about trying to get a hold of him all weekend, although they never called... but that's neither here nor there, and ask him to come in for a third interview so they can narrow down the five possible applicants for the two spots they have. He goes in, kicks some more ass, and they say they will let him know for sure the next day. Again he hears nothing all day and is a total wreck by this point, and I'm about to smack him *stay with me man!* He calls again, and leaves a message and finally the guy calls him back and says that he hired one girl just out of school for really cheap, and his main concern was how much Rich wanted, asked him what he would be comfortable taking. So Rich tells him a number which is still a lot more than he makes now, with the promise that within the first year they will increase that by another $5,000 and the guy says that sounds acceptable and to email him a proposal.
He does, along with the references the guy asked for, cause it's pretty uncouth to contact his current employer to ask about him when the current employer doesn't know he is out looking, and gets a call this afternoon saying they want him and he should give his notice and with any luck Rich's current boss will be the total asshole he always is and Rich won't even have to stay the two weeks. Also, humorously enough, the other girl that was hired is named... Vivian
It's my 14 year anniversary in 29 minutes I love you babe! Next year, we will have been together for half of my life! Unbelievable... Tony is gonna babysit tomorrow so we can go out, just the two of us, ALL DAY!!! That like... NEVER happens so I'm WAY excited!!
Anyway, I'm off to visit... Hugs everyone!
Viv
