Just a little update and some neat things...

Well... Thanksgiving has come and pass, so I figured now that I'm done living a life of luxury (who can pass up my grandmother's food?) that I'm going to start to switch to a healthy, organic diet where I can. I've been thinking about it and it's a bit of a change from what I'm used to, and also a bit pricey, but it should help me get back into shape. Another thing that I'm doing is cutting down big time on smoking. I love to smoke, but I know it's bad for me and can quite possibly kill me in the long run, so I have to quit. I've started to cut down, and limit myself on when and where I can smoke (not at work, not at school, and if I can only after meals).

Another good thing that I'm gonna start to do is go bike riding as much as I can, and sometimes go with Matt. I brought the idea up with him last night when we were talking and he seemed to like the idea, mainly because it'll be good exercise, cheap to do, and be fun at the same time. I'm also gonna be joining a gym in a few weeks, most likely after Christmas because my parents are getting me a membership to a gym in Red Bank where I spend a lot of my time, so why not use the gym there?

Also, I will shortly be posting some pictures of the area of Pennsylvania that I'm basing my story Big Valley on. I've completed two chapters so far, but I'm holding off on posting anything till I know I'll be finished with it. Meanwhile, you can take a look at the pictures and get a good idea on the area and what it looks like. The only thing is you'll have to forgive some of the pictures because the ones I got were taken from a moving car with my camera phone and it kinda skewed the focus a bit. I'll be returning to the area most likely in Late December, Early January so I'll be getting more pictures with my camera (I promise not to forget it this time!!!! :D )

Well, my break from school work is over, time for me to go battle the monster known as Network + (if I can get the stuff today grrrrr....)

Eric :)

Giving up smoking is the most important single thing you can do to ensure a long, healthy life. Exercise is great; everyone should do it on a regular basis, but giving up smoking comes first.

I quit 40 years ago, after seven years as a regular smoker, and I'm glad I dd. All of my contemporaries who did not quit are now dead. Most of them passed away from lung cancer in their early- to mid-fifties. A few lucky ones had heart attacks and didn't have to live through the cancer thing.

Now here's the hard lesson, Eric. You can't cut back on smoking and expect to accomplish anything. Reduced tobacco consumption leaves you addicted and does nothing to prolong your life. You have to quit cold turkey and do it NOW...the very instant you decide that you are going to quit. And after you've gone a week or a month without smoking, don't think you can have just one with no ill effects. You will be sick as a dog for 15 minutes; 15 minutes after that, you will be dying for another smoke. How would I know? Experience. I did all those things. Quitting now, while you really want to do it, is the only good time. Quitting totally is the only successful way.

Think you will gain weight when you quit smoking? Hop on your bike and take a ride. Throw away your smokes, your lighter, your matches now. Stay away from people who smoke. Stay away from places which permit smoking.

I wish you love and a long life.

I gave up smoking, got asthma and then took care of ventilator patients. Many of those patients would have themselves put in a wheelchair and put on a portable machine and plug so that they could go out to smoke...the very thing that put them on the machine in the first place! Good for you for trying to quit now while you are still healthy, it will be a struggle and a bit of a long road, but you can do it! I did and have been smoke free for many years. Good luck on the organic diet too...even just adding more unprocessed food and less box/can stuff can be a big help, without necessarily the "organic" label.

I haven't had a cigarette since the middle of July. I've quit before, but this is the longest I've ever lasted. And I smoked for 34 years. I really think this time it will stick. If I can quit, anyone can.

Well... Y'all were right... I threw out my smokes and gave myself one hell of an incentive....

I'm gonna use the money I would spend on smoking and sock it away for the next GA Get-Together

Cheers!

Hooray! We know you can do it. Just call on anyone of us if you need a little more encouragement.

Here's a thought. Ride your bike to Vegas. :P
