No, they'd just go to the hospital for treatment and have medicaid fund them. Then as soon as they got out of the hospital, they'd run down to one of those "tea bagging" rallies where they stick their balls in other people's faces. Oh wait. My bad. Wrong definition of tea bagging. They'd go down to those rallies and decry the advent of a government-run health care system. Then it's back to church to get bitten again.

I know it's not common, except in Appalachia. I actually heard about it on a show I was watching last night. I thought those people were insane, though I must say that the Catholics in the Philippines subjecting themselves to flagellation and crucifixion is even worse.

It's definitely not the mainstream. It's happened quite recently here in rural Missouri, usually in Pentecostal congregations.
