Tiger Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Recently I mentioned in my blog that I want to write a sexual scene with lesbians. Yes, you heard me right. I said lesbians! Now, this is quite a challenge as I am definitely a homosexual male. However, I appreciate love in all of its various forms. I've even written a straight scene. Now one might ask, "Why would an author at GA be interested in writing about lesbian love?" There are several reasons actually. Human sexuality is uniquely human. Only one other creature on this entire planet has sexual desires beyond procreation. That would be dolphins for anyone who is wondering. However, I am not a dolphin, so there's not much sense in writing about them. Lesbians are often thought of as sexual objects to straight men, especially in porn, and that's such a shame. They're otherwise portrayed as being masculine when many, if not most, lesbians are no different from other women except for the fact that they love and make love to other women. I believe representing our sisters, lesbians, as the beautiful and sensual women that they are is very important. Beyond that, lesbians have faced many of the same prejudices as we have and being minimized in many ways, even by gay men, which is just plain sad. In the early years of the gay movement, lesbians were often the victims of sexism by gay men who would make comments like, "Woman, why don't you go bake me some cookies." Quite frankly, that's totally messed. Even at that, lesbians were at the forefront in the 80's when so many gay men were dying of AIDS by the thousands. The scene I want to write is to be beautiful, because that's the way they deserve to be portrayed, and I accept nothing less as an author. I cannot quite say how the lesbian scene fits in, because I don't want to spoil it at all. What I can say is that I would appreciate some input, especially from bisexual woman and maybe some lesbians who may be hanging around. Actually, any input would be appreciated. This is definitely not going to be easy, but I believe I can write a beautiful scene with some good input from my fellow members and especially authors.
SRevol Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Heavenly creatures shows some scenes that could help you hehe
Procyon Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters has quite a bit of lesbian sex, and she's a very good writer so it's not any old crap (another novel she wrote was shortlisted for the Booker, which is usually a sign of quality). I also found a clip from the TV series -- nothing that I would mind my son seeing, but could be a bit inspiring all the same.
Tiger Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Thanks Maria! I might just have to read it. I've never really read a lesbian novel. We'll see how it goes. It will take me a while to get to the scene in the story.
DomLuka Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 When I first read the title to this topic my first reaction was laughter. Not because I think there
Tiger Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Thanks Dom! I'll have to read some of those articles. I believe they'd be helpful in this venture. Your input is definitely most welcome! I will mention what story the scene is going to appear in once it gets closer to the time in which the particular chapter shall be released. Then again, it will be like a musical crescendo that reaches fortissimo as these woman are together for the first time.
Boy In Doubt Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Oh cool, a topic on lesbians. Although I'm not one, I'd imagine it to be the same as writing any other story with characters who find ways to connect and bring out each other's strengths and weaknesses. 'Cause after all, what's more beautiful than opening up to someone and trusting them with your heart? So yeah, I'd focus on that. The television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer's portrayal of non-platonic love between two women was really good, IMO. The characters Willow and Tara were brought together by their interest in magic only to realize that it's not just that one thing they have in common. Tara is a very reserved, very introverted character and with Willow it's like she's a different person. Not because she changes her, but because she can actually be herself around her. Ah, the good ol' days... Good luck with your story, Tiger.
W_L Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Does watching old episodes of the L-Word help you out? I love lesbians, even though I might be gay. Strangely enough, I always was fascinated by Xena, the warrior princess due to the lesbian subtext and of course the shrill yell. However, some people might claim the show as a general sexual power relationship rather than a mutual one due one partner being the dominant versus the weaker partner. However, for fans that watch, the weaker partner gets progressively stronger and the dominant partner gets softer. I love that part about the Yin and Yang balance between lovers growing and developing.
