hh5 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) I watched a tv show that shared the above case ... the episode was stating in this case that there was something in this young writers brain that needed to be cut out in order to prolong the life of the patient Abstract Writing epilepsy is a rare reflex syndrome in which seizures are triggered by writing. Its an interesting gift ... no writers block ... nice stream of consciousness ... but plagued with seizures that would be eventually lead to death as well as a lost of cognitive abilities ... yet the patient refused treatment .. it be thought as crazy ... incompetent to take care of his own welfare ... the argument is to operate ... by legal means The rational was that when a gift has you vs you have the gift ... its time to cut it out lol, the patient even wrote a story "Cut it out" But one doctor who recognizes the power of the humanities ... took a learn teaching ... what's important to whom the patient is ... is to do no harm ... so this one is a really gifted writer the question throw to the other doctors ... is it right to cut the brain of Dante, Moliere, Sir Walter Scott, Edgar Allan Poe, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Alfred Lord Tennyson or even artist Vincent van Gogh implying they all lived short lives where science could have taken away their gifts to humanity Epilepsy Hall of Fame http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f36/epilepsy-hall-fame-7435/ Wow imagine curing Einstein before he made the bomb or discovered relativity? Its interesting that after their deaths it becomes our gift of humanity to cherish ... ie: gogh art ... Poe's writing ... but we didn't cherish them when they made it ... its ironic and in that irony ... a doctor would want to cut out a gift to escape a lawsuit by the patients family ... gosh do no harm ... its very difficult ... to understand the doctor Edited April 2, 2013 by hh5
